Free Wordpress theme suggestions? Want to feature many products w/snippets on the front page.

Hi guys, I'm building an Amazon review site for a category of products - let's say girls' Easter dresses (totally not that, but just to use an example of something where it would be beneficial to have lots of pictures up front).

I'd love a theme that incorporates a big image or slider at the top, plus the opportunity to include a good number of thumbnail or other small images with the first sentence or so of copy. Ideally I'd hope to incorporate a 300x250 near the top.

I've tried a couple and had issues, thought I'd reach out and see if anyone has a good suggestion. Would love to find something that allows you to tease to a lot of products on the home page in a nice, clean way - almost like a storefront.

    If your will to look at paid themes, Premium WordPress Themes | Elegant Themes has some great themes that would cover what you have asked for, i would highly recommend them =)

    The wordpress review themes from Colleen Slater work great for what you're looking for and you can just buy a single theme (i'd recommend the guitar review theme as it's very easy to customize but I think they're all pretty much the same with different graphics).

    Otherwise find a very stripped down theme that offers image snippets for the front page and just have excerpts showing on your front page as opposed to full posts. You can then use the "Featured Content Gallery" which is a free plugin for a slider.

    You can also just set your first page to a 'static' page within wordpress and add your individual products there with a link to the review post, works very well.

    I'd highly recommend learning a little about CSS and PHP and you can start modifying themes you like but don't quite do exactly what you want, there are tons of tutorials available.

    Gazette Edition from Woothemes, hands-down the best, imo, and includes everything you mentioned. It's also easily customized with a lot of different features. If you want to see a live demo of a fully customized example:

    I found a free clone of Gazette a few days ago here, but I haven't used it myself so no guarantees:

    Don't be fooled by that ugly white page in the demo pic. Just changing the theme color (one-click) will make it look completely different, as I'm sure you could tell from the first link.

    I could also suggest 2 other customizations that I think you would appreciate based on your OP, but I would prefer not to mention those here. If you happen to decide on using one of these, PM me and I'll let you know what those are.

      Be careful with free themes because some of them have trojan code included.

      There is at least one plugin you can use to check e.g.

    Not sure about the etiquette so hope I don't offend. There is a theme that, unfortunately isn't free; I think it is about $77 but well worth it. It is very customizable with built-in fields where you can put code or text or whatever you want. I have been using it and like it very much. It is easy to use; I think it would do what you want.
