If someone gave you 100,000 untargeted visitors

If someone said: "I can send 100,000 completely untargeted world-wide visitors to any URL you want" to what sort of landing page would you send them?

    I would send them to...

    www.TakeTheseDamUntargetedVisitorsBack.com

    I like targeted visitors better...

      Excellent. :-)

My thoughts exactly. Random visitors are useless. They'll just bump up your hosting fees. Not to mention that if you get a sudden flood of traffic on a shared server, you'd annoy your provider so much they'd probably shut the site down.

So my answer to "If someone gave you 100,000 untargeted visitors" is: I'd be extremely annoyed, and would plot revenge. :-)

      Cheers

      LOL...

      Good one, sir!

I'm trying to upload 20,000 popups to the squeeze page so the "untargeted visitors" can just click that red x in the upper right hand corner of the screen...

Send them to a generic mass market CPA offer - iPods, iPhones contests etc.

Almost everyone wants one of those.

I'd put up a cool social network (BuddyPress or something like that) and let the 100,000 invite all their address books and grow to ten million or so, then start with the mass-market offers like iPhone accessories

And then sell the site for a few mil

Well, I'm gonna rain on almost everybody's parade here who's said, "Send
them to <whatever> because everybody wants that stuff."

News flash. I read what so called "everybody" wants and I don't want any
of it. So imagine you had 100,000 people like me. You'd make NOTHING.

Non targeted traffic is worthless...no matter what anybody tells you.

People use the Internet for a variety of reasons, to find things, for
amusement, entertainment, the reasons are virtually endless.

For example, few people know this, but I used to hang out a lot at a place
called Pogo, which is a games site. You should see all the games that are
                  there.

And chat rooms? You should see all the folks that hang out there.

And of course there are the folks who just want to look something up,
like what the weather is going to be, where the closest restaurant is,
how to book a flight or get a motel, getting tickets for a concert or a
                  sports event.

                  Should I go on?

Believe me, I know why your average Joe uses the Internet. IM is but a
spec of dust on the horizon next to what's out there.

Whoa there buddy! I wasn't having a go at you.

I was simply adding one sentence of justification to why I agree with Frank's opinion. Most of the things that you list can be found on Myspace, Facebook and a whole host of other similar social sites, which is why I agree that profiting from 100,000 untargeted visitors can be achieved by and scaled up with a significant simple growth strategy as outlined in Frank's post.

Thomas, I know you weren't having a go at me and it wasn't taken that
way. I was just reaffirming that I understood there is a big world out
there. I plan to conquer a good part of it next year after my restructuring
                      is completed.

Today I took the first step in canceling $200 of worthless stuff that doesn't
fit in with my business plans any longer. I am making a major overhaul.

As a matter of fact, I am looking to hire an Adwords expert. The person
has to have proven credentials. But that's something else altogether.

Anyway, you and I are cool. I was just letting you see that I knew that
IM wasn't the be all and end all.

I just wish it didn't take me over 5 years to figure that out.

Life's too short for regrets. It's almost a New Year with a new business model for you and a renewed optimism and enthusiasm. I'm sure you'll make a great success of it.

I'd create a page that had three big buttons. Haven't given it much thought, but I'd try to generally separate them and then make some broadly targeted offers.
