What to do with a physical product?

Hi everybody. Wow what a great forum, so much to study. I am just looking for some input on where to start and what direction to go in with a sporting goods product that needs to be shipped.? My budget to get off the ground is low, maybe $500. The $500 would be just for the website and marketing. I have enough materials to make the items, they cost about $15 to make and Ive sold a few at the gym for $60. Am I supposed to market a physical product like this different than a digital product? Any advice or direction is very much appreciated. And ill be back a little later to answer any questions you internet wizards may have for me.

Have you thought about selling this product through Amazon? I work for a company who pushes products through Amazon and the sheer volume of sales we get is crazy. Of course you could probably do it all on your own by getting a website built with a secure shopping cart but I would investigate Amazon to see if you can utilize them to move your product.

I believe they will even fulfill orders for merchants these days, but I bet that costs a pretty penny.

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

I would have to agree with BloggingPro on this one son. The fact you have a product that sells is an accomplishment in it's own right and I applaud your success.

However there is no real need to complicate that success with a "Do it yourself" mindset. If you did want to be the only source in which you could get this product that would be fine however, the expenses in which to properly promote your new creation might far outweigh the profits you get in return.

Like BP's suggestion I would see what I could do about getting distributors, of course they would make a percentage of sales but the fact is you would cover more ground and save a fair amount of time and money then doing it all yourself.

My question to you is what are your future expectations on your invention? Do you have it a patent on it so the idea cannot be replicated, and also how do you vision your business to look like? You being the source or retailers selling your product.

I would also try Amazon. I have been thinking about selling plyo boxes that I make at my local swap meet (flea market) on Sundays.. maybe that is something you can try too if you have access to one.
