Promise more or over deliver

When providing a good or a service and you know you can provide X for the customer is it worth just doing X really well or do you want to say you are going to provide slightly less than X and then actually provide X?

Hope it makes sense.

Simply do you fulfill a larger promise or over deliver on your smaller promise?

    I think overdelivering always is a VERY good thing for your business. But it doesn't mean you have to promise less than you actually give. Your first example of doing X really well is a part of overdelivering in itself, I think. Other ways could mean trying to deliver services earlier than promised, or giving extra advice to your customers etc. You don't have to promise to do less for these to still be seen as overdelivering

    Under promising and over delivering is always a good strategy. It's better then the reverse.

    I think it's just a good idea to do your best in everything you do. If you work hard, your employers/clients will be impressed and more likely to come back to you. You'd be surprised by how many lazy people there are in the world. People will be real impressed if you go the extra mile on your own.

      Here is my take on it. If someone makes a large promise and fulfills it, they kept their end of the bargain. Nothing more, nothing less. I will remember them for a job well done and for keeping their word. And I will buy from them in the future.

      If someone makes a smaller promise, fulfills that promise and gives me more, then I will remember them for going above and beyond. They jump to the top of my list for future needs.

      This assumes, that in both cases the offer/promise was clear and I knew exactly what I was buying.

    Believe it or not. People want value these days. Over deliver by offering bonuses. I am not talking fluff. Neither. Give information plus morning information until it hurts.don't use deceptive tactics they will catch up to you aftersll-what goes around- comes around!

    Over-delivering is a good way to go however most internet marketers can't even deliver what's been said on their sales pages. So before concentrating on over-delivering make sure you deliver what's been promised first, then think about over-delivering.

    Psychologically speaking you should always under-promise and over-deliver. There's quite a lot of material out there that deals with the subject... It boils down to managing customer/client/prospects expectations and the effect of meeting/failing to meet/ exceeding those expectations ^_^

    if you promise something and can't deliver, it's going to hurt you. but if you flat out over deliver, you've got yourself a golden nest in a long run.
