I frequent forums in the niche I am trying to market and when I want to leave a comment to someones post and include a link to my site, I'm stuck. How would I go about doing this. Thanks

You need to go to your profile and update your signature area by adding the correct link to your site. Of course, each forum has different rules, so make sure they allow you to post links in your signature are.

Yeah. A lot of forums don't want you plugging your links. Assuming they don't mind, you can throw them up in your signature or in a post using bbcode.

Typically, it's: [url =yourwebsite]your anchor text[/url] without the space after [url

How successful are people through promoting through forums?

I see trickles of traffic, nothing more.

Is your offer relevant to the forum? Promoting 'how to get chicks' on a marketing forum will work about as good as promoting 'IM Marketing methods' on a dating site.

Find a forum where you have some expertise
Provide great answers and help to the questions asked.
Soon you'll be recognized as 'the expert' in that arena
Put an offer in your signature that matches your expertise

Voila' - people will click on the link

In my experience it depends on the forum, and how much you post.

I get next to nothing from just the occasional post, but there's a forum that I (by choice) spend a lot of time on, and I get a fair amount of visitors to one of my sites from it.

I suspect that if people know who you are, they'll check your site out. However if you post once or twice a month, and that's all, they'll mark you down as someone who's only there to promote something, and they won't click your links.

In our career forum and I have also noticed in many other forums you have to reach certain post count before you can submit your signature links. Usually it is about 10 posts but in some forums you have to have 50 or even 100 posts before you can use signature links. It is just to make sure that you are not planning to spam and you have good intensions. It should be mentions in forum rules usually.

  • Dumping links into Forum posts isn't exactly "marketing".

If your link adds VALUE to the discussion then it may be worth doing. But if you plan on getting SEO link juice you may want to consider that you will leave a footprint. If you have been following what Google has done this year you may understand why leaving a footprint like what you are proposing is a very BAD idea. You can't go back and fix all the damage later in most cases.

Marketing involves finding your target audience and putting yourself in front of them.

With each link you want to leave you have to ask yourself = Does this add value to the person reading my reply and are they my target audience? If not you are likely doing more harm than good.
