I asked this question and I'm told it varies and is heavily variable dependent, What product your selling etc etc. I had nearly 3000 clicks in less than a week on a casino product and not one sign up.

You don't need any clicks at all on your site, to get conversations: you just need to come into the forum - there are conversations here, every day.

It will depend upon the type of product you are promoting..also if u know how to run a successful adwords campaign you can get sales of the order of 1 sales per 20 clicks..but you need to know how to target the campaign, selecting the right keywords etc...

    I got 13 clicks before making a $900+ sale on Amazon.com

For lower prices items it can take as little as 4 or 5 clicks before seeing a conversion.

If you concentrate on getting search engine traffic from buyer keywords you will get a good conversion rate.

Depends on a lot of factors, the most important being the niche/product you are trying to promote. For digital products, the conversion would be lower as it is difficult to convince people to buy something that is not tangible. However if the product is good and genuinely solves a problem that your visitor is having, then you can expect better conversion rates. For physical products, the conversions are better (but commissions often lower) but you should provide high quality reviews on your site.

    This totally depends on details!

Sale page conversion is .5% average outside of the IM niche. A REALLY good product converts at around 4%.

You can push it up to 5-6% with a pre-sell.

It depends on the marketing funnel. Affiliates without one usually don't pull profits. I like to use the Disney Theme Park gift shop example when it comes to successful marketing funnels:

Here's how "Direct Linking" to an affiliate offer would work in a Disney Theme Park:

Step #1: You are funneled through the front gate (kinda of like you clicking on a paid search ad)

Step #2: You are automatically transported to a gift shop for a popular ride and Disney hopes you make a gift shop purchase

In this example, some people will actually purchase, of course, because Disney gift shops have some compelling things to buy. The conversion rates, of course, will be pretty low.

Here's how the Disney gift shop funnel works better:

Step #1: After entering the gate you decide to pre-qualify yourself for a specific gift shop purchase even further by choosing a specific ride. In this example you decide on on the Toy Story Midway Mania ride.

Step #2: You stand in line, likely for around an hour waiting for the ride. In the meantime you are entertained and reminded about how cool the Toy Story movies really are. You are reminded of how much your children love the movies as well as they are waiting with you to ride the ride.

Step #3: It's your turn, finally! You go on the ride and love it. You even get the high score for your family (the Midway Mania game keeps score of how well you do while shooting at specific items throughout the game)

Step #4: With your kids you enter the gift shop. They of course, want everything, you might want something yourself. As a result, if the price is right you end up making a purchase.

    The simple fact is this:

In the affiliate industry, you still get some people thinking they are going to make money by direct linking to an affiliate offer. The truth is that it can work at times, but if you are using paid traffic it's very tough to pull a profit.

Other affiliates always presell the affiliate offers, usually with a review style article page. Sometimes they even use a video. I've had pretty good success with presell articles/advertorials.

The funnel doesn't end here though. A smaller amount of affiliates now capture the lead information for themselves before sending people to the affiliate offer. I'm starting to do this more and more with success. I've heard of some affiliates following up with the leads using email, SMS, and even at times phone rooms. For now I'm just using email follow up and seeing increased ROIs.

    Your original question was:

"Successful affiliate marketers how many clicks do you have to give a program before you see a sale?"

Well, if you are direct linking with the wrong traffic you may never see a sale.

If you are direct linking with good traffic, then you'll see sales, but you'll be leaving things up to chance, almost like with the Disney theme parks teleport example. It would almost be by complete chance that a conversion would occur.

With a marketing funnel, you completely change the game and can start to predict conversion rates. With one of my niches I get about 1 out of 20 people when I send good traffic to my presell article to give me name and email address.

Immediately after they enter name and email address they are sent to the affiliate offer. Some people purchase straight away after being redirected. Others purchase within the day. Some take a few days and even weeks. When all people are funneled through, about 25% of the email submits purchase the affiliate offer. Others on the list purchase other similar products that I promote through the emails.

Since 1 out of 20 give me name and email, and 25% of them take the affiliate offer, that means my conversion rate with my funnel is 1 out of 80. If I was direct linking, my guess is that my average conversion rate might be double or triple that. My conversions would also be pretty random. Since I have a funnel though, things are much more predictable.

So the moral of the story is this: Create a funnel so that you can get higher and more predictable conversion rates. Without a refined funnel, you are likely shooting from the hip.

    It depends on 2 factors:

    1. Source of the traffic
    2. How well the website converts the traffic into sales.

The best source of traffic can come from your subscriber list if they know, like and trust you. The worst source of traffic is probably from free traffic exchanges.

The better your traffic the more sales you'll make, even a usually poor converting sales system can convert well for you if you do a great job of pre-selling people on the product.

    I hope this helps.

Rather than clicking, try snapping your fingers a few times in heavy traffic.

That should do the trick in getting some highly targeted conversations.

Another way to look at this 'conversion rate' issue or "conversation rate" issue as Alexa noted , :-), is to say, "what is the average visitor's state of mind, when they hit the site?"...

Without any warmup to the product or product seller, you could assume they are HIGHLY skeptical - just take that on faith. So, as already mentioned, with direct linking, they almost arrive with a 'chip on their shoulder' so to speak.
That traffic will convert terrible, maybe not all. 1,000+ hits without a sale is not unheard of.

If the traffic is informed by a good believable presell, then it starts to be dependent more on the sales page copy. And this is misunderstood as well. Just because a page looks 'sharp' and 'clean' doesn't mean squat. ...the criteria to judge whether a sales page will convert is not always clear. Many will just assume, if it's high gravity on clickbank, for instance, it must be a good sales page. ...which others here know is not true.

This is a great thread. Clearly a good pre-sell increases conversions and once again it's about producing more content.

Does conversions massively drop if there is an email and name capture first? I understand this is a great way to build a niche list.
