What niches are hot right now?

Hey, I'm currently looking to start my first project but not sure what niches are 'hot' at the moment and could do with some guidance. I would prefer to find these niches without the use of software which costs X ammount of money as i really don't have any spare at the moment.

Thanks, B3

Take a look at google trends, dummies.com, best sellers at Amazon, topics of best sellers in books magazines, and even the media. This has always worked extremely well for me to find the hottest niches for marketing.

    • In my experience, niche's play a small part in it. What I focus on are the actual keywords. The bottom line is that if you target the right keywords, that people are using when they want to buy something, it doesn't really matter what they are buying or what niche it is in.

If they have already decided that they are going to buy something and then search for it online with your keywords, and land on your site, you will make sales.

So rather focus on finding the right keywords and then trying to rank in google for those.

Good point if your focus is on SEO.

There's a whole other game out there which is actually bigger than SEO where niche selection has everything to do with it.

This media buying and massive list building etc.

That's some powerful stuff right there. Sometimes even the highest ranking websites have problems converting traffic to sales. And some of my sites perhaps never will rank closer to 10,000 from the top because they are in the most heavily competitive niches. But those niches are where the big money lives.

Well, in my eyes it is best to enter big niches and big markets, like make money online, dating, weight loss, health.

These are biggest markets and in my eyes it is best to stick with only one niche and only with that, that you really like, because if you want to make a lot of money, you have to create a backend as well and if you are in 10 different niches, it is almost impossible to create 20 products in each of these markets.

Well, close. I think this requires some caution and clarification. I would stay away from niches that are too competitive, like "make money online." If you can find a profitable niche within these topics (e.g., "can you really make money online from home" or "how to make money online") then go for it, but these top level niches are already so saturated that entering it would be near impossible to catch up to the competition. I say that loosely. I have recently discovered what looks to be a competitive niche based on the PR for the sites currently ranking for the specific keyword, but then again, I feel I can beat producing the number of backlinks for the top 5 sites combined in a short few months (doing it at the right pace) and still get my PR0 site at the top of the SERPs above PR 4's and 5's.

So, all that said, just make sure that as a newbie you can compete in the niche you target.

I kinda agree here. If I can make a lot of money from one niche, why wouldn't I want to make a lot more money by duplicating the process with other niches? Again, that said, if you are new, start with one niche and spend the first year maximizing it (like Matt alluded, it requires getting tons of backlinks to your niche site, and as a newbie it will likely be difficult to focus when you're splitting time building multiple niches at once). Once you've learned the ins/outs of IM and feel very well seasoned (in other words, have learned from your mistakes), find your next niche or two to start earning more income from.

      Good luck! :-)

I would try two things going onto ezine articles and taking a look at different niches that strike your interested and scroll down to where you see most viewed articles. This will tell you were DEMAND is in people in that niche.

The second thing I would try is going onto amazon and picking a category/product and drill down until you can find specific types of products in that categories and look at which ones have the most reviews. This will again tell you where the most demand is for a product. You can do the same with eBay.

I'm currently involved in a training program that helps out with things like this. They focus on training people how to market & find their "niche" & offers a couple of little money making bonuses. It's COMPLETELY free & helps out alot. While you have to go through a couple of minor steps to get started, it's definetely worth it. & totally, absolutely, 100% free! Click the link in my sig if you're interested. & just a suggestion... instead of worrying about "what's hot", you'd probably be better off going for something you're passionate about or a hobby since that alone will help when it comes to blogging & creating content to get & keep your clients interested in what you're offering. Hope this helps & good luck

Check popular news, Amazon, etc, or there are those sites that show you popular sites. If you go on social networking sites (digg, stumble) those will also show some good sites.

Going to Flippa.com and looking at what is selling high, you can learn why it's selling high and what the niche is there too.

I prefer to at least start in something I know a little bit about, then I can research more. Find something you are preferably interested in.

Cooking is always a hot niche.

Well, unless you're making ice cream, cold soups, cold drinks and stuff like that.

So, maybe cooking is, on the average, somewhat lukewarm.

Well, still, most people like hot meals, so I guess it sort of leans more hot than cold, so maybe it's a warm niche rather than hot or lukewarm.

You can get a free full copy of Market Samurai that will still partially function once the free time has run out. With that you can figure out which niches are profitable, the best keywords and what has the least competition etc.

It's great if you can find a buying niche in something that you are truly interested in, but that isn't always possible.

I like to promote physical products mainly and use Google shopping to find niches, and/or check out the products with the most good feedback on Amazon. Affiliating to Amazon is just about the easiest way to make money in my experience.

Another way of choosing niches is to list what you and your friends are buying on the Internet and then check out the potential of each type of product.

What's hot? Think about what you and your friends and neighbours will be doing at given times of the year. For the next few months it could be barbeques/recipes, patio furniture/heaters, travel accessories. Those are the type of things that I would be checking out.

I would ignore those who are telling you to click on the link in their signature, that's against the forum rules.

Go look at the magazine racks and take note of both the titles and the cover headlines - physical publishers only ever target hot markets as their costs prohibit doing anything else. Magazine headlines/straplines are written by people who know how to target their market like nothing else. So, with the titles you have an idea of niches and with the headlines you know how to approach them...

To include among the useful info that has been shared on this thread.

Here are the list of all the places you can go when trying to find popular niche hot topics. These are 99% of the time profitable topics also.

    1. Alexa Top 500
    - http://www.alexa.com/site/ds/top_500

    • When you go to this site it will just give you the most popular sites. Treat
these as topics. On the left hand side, is where you'll get the good
information. You can look at these sites by category. You'll get some great
    ideas from this!

    2. Amazon Magazines & Newspapers

    http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/browse/-/599858/103-1634407-8836647

    • Like the Alexa Top 500, but this part of Amazon gives you popular
magazines and newspaper subscription information. Chances are if there
is a publication on a topic, you can write a profitable article on the topic.

    3.eHow.com
    - http://www.ehow.com

    • This is one of my favorite sites to find great topics on. It's basically a great
big how to site. How to topics are among the most popular and profitable
topics. This site will be a huge source of information for you.

    4. MeetUp.com
    - Find a Meetup Group near you - Meetup

    • If there is one site out of all of these that you go to, this one is a must.
They actually list popular and sites that are growing in popularity right on
their site. They are telling you exactly what topics are hot and what topics
are going to be hot. This site has been a secret weapon of mine for a
    while with my niche marketing.
    though!

    5. Forums
are another great place to find good topics. you can mainly create products and sites for the Internet marketing niche because that's where a lot of my knowledge is, but there are forums on just about any topic you can think of out there.

    All the Best.

I'm definitely not into trendy niches such as the latest apps, video games, or the hottest seasonal toys. I tend to go after evergreen niches, usually based on lifestyle. For example, people will always be looking for mates, dates, and....well....sex. People are always going to buy wedding dresses and get married. And for the foreseeable future, people are going to want to lose weight.

Parents are going to want their children to do well in school. Parents also want their children to do well in athletics. Some mothers even want their daughters to join beauty pagents, while others want them to become cheerleaders. Coaches are going to want their players to play better. People with health problems are always going to be looking to ease their pain in one way, shape, or form.

Some couples will want to find a way to stop their divorce and/or improve their relationship. Both men and women want to spice up their sex life in one way or another. Some men are so into fixing cars that they spend/ invest 10 - 25% of their earnings into fixing up that old 1964 Mustang or '64 Impala.

If memory serves me correctly, the Wallstreet Journal had an article about 2 years ago that talked about the weight loss niche and how several millionaires were created each day by simply branding and promoting their method of losing weight. That's just one big niche.

And don't underestimate what some people might think a "small niche" is. I once thought that making and selling home made jewelry wasn't worth my time because I didn't think it was big enough - until I met an entrepreneur who earned 8 figures a year selling home made jewelry from his home (ok, ok, he uses a drop shipping company now, but he had very humble beginnings - people are always going to buy jewelry).

Find a problem, be the solution, use channels of distribution to get the word out, then test, tweak, and test, test, test until you get the conversions needed to obtain a profit.

Actually there are no permanent valuable Niche keyword. Everything is depends on situation and season. Perhaps some keywords called EVER GREEN, but they are occupied by some Big parties. I use to think that the make money niche and health and fitness niche were to competitive but there actually some ways around all of the competition that most aren't aware of. If you take a look at Fiverr.com then the site will list a whole bunch of people who have access to sofwares and other services and products which could help you skyrocket your business. You only have to pay $5 which is the best part since there are people on their who will submit a spun article for you to 6000 article directories. So yeah definitely stick with the most lucrative niches which are health and fitness and make money online.

Anything with massive amounts of pain...

A few examples are Make Money Online, Get Out Of Debit, Tooth Aches, Pest Infestations, Dog Training, Politics, Back Pain, Weight Loss or Fitness, oh and don't forget about pyramid schemes... lol

Anyways man, a great place to look is on the Clickbank Marketplace, just look on the left hand side for the categories and examine the top sellers in each category. That should give you a great idea of whats working now.

A few have already mentioned it here, but I wanted to put a slightly different perspective on it.

Many people just getting started focus on "chasing the hot topic" and the problem is that they end up going in a 100 directions with no success in any of them. Some advise to go with what you're passionate about, but you have to be realistic about that passion as well. Is there a market for it?

The one thing I can tell you for sure is that it's going to take some time and effort to build enough authority around your site so make sure it is something that you are willing to stick with. Authority has really become important and I'm afraid that mini-sites are becoming more and more doomed from an SEO perspective. So pick something that (a) you have good knowledge about (b) is a buyers market worth entering and (c) has multiple products in it that you can promote - you don't want to marry one site to one product anymore (the mini-site model). If you pick a niche which has lots of products in it at different price points, you will have a lot more options in front of you for income streams - and these products tend to go in and out of favor - good sales one month, not so great the next - that's why you want multiple to even the tides.

After you make your pick, be realistic about the timeframe and work that will have to be invested - don't expect to put 10 articles on the site and hit the Internet Jackpot. Realistic expectations and solid long term plans yield the best results. Building an authority site takes time and good quality content - lots of it. Rather than trying to make a sale, focus on providing value to your niche and you'll be surprised at the end results in time.
