Question on selling products via blog

I have finally got a few sites up and running. All of them have a sales page as the index and a blog as well. I direct raffic from articles to my main page. But, from my blog posts I direct them to the affiliate site with a little link or banner at the end of the post.

I have one other site that I want to be a more general site within a niche, so a sles page isnt what I am going for. Instead, I just want to have WP in the root.

My question - To sell affiliate products via my blog, should I just put a link or banner to the affiliate product page at the end of each post? Is that how you sell via blog?

I'm still new, so bare with me...at least I am finally taking action!

    Hey there,

Since you're using Wordpress, I'd recommend using this neat Wordpress plugin that auto-links keywords and sends people to your affiliate links. You just tell it what keywords you want linked and where the traffic should go, then it does the rest automatically.

I personally use it and highly recommend it: http://www.plr.me/ninja (my affiliate link )

In-context ads will perform much better than any other banner, in my opinion. That's why I use text ads on my blog and it works quite well.

    Just my 2 cents.

Personally, I am not a fan of having a "sales page" as my static page on any of my blogs.

If you want people to buy the product you are promoting, you should try to build some type of relationship with them on your blogs. Remember, if you do not provide them with some type of info they are looking for, why would they ever come back to your blog?

Every few posts... (every week or two)... you may be able to have a promotion post. If your blogs are new, I would try and establish some decent traffic/returning traffic before I throw affiliate links around.

That's just what I would do...

To answer your question, you could put banner ads at the end of your posts like you mentioned with some text links throughout the post.

      Here's what I do...

When I'm creating an "authority" blog which will have upwards of 1500 posts, I put the blog in the root of the domain (no static home page), and I just blog away, whenever I get a spare moment. On blogs which aren't associated with my name (aff blogs) I hire writers.

I sell on the blog by linking to aff products, or my own, using keywords -- often I just link directly to the product's sales page.

OTOH, if I want to build a list in the niche, I create a static home page for the blog, it's a sales page for the list. I create categories, including a "blog" category, and treat the blog as a "normal" blog. However, since the blog doesn't have any aspirations to become an authority since it's just a sales tool, it will have far fewer posts, usually less than 50.

On this kind of blog, I use aff links in posts, but I focus mainly on selling via the list.

Good luck -- hope this helps.

      Cheers

You can advertise any way you want. I don't know who has stats for the best place to put an ad, but there are many places. I put the ads for my copywriting services at the top of my blog (stephensblog.com).

For your strategy, it probably depends what kind of blog you plan to have. If you're looking to build a healthy community, make sure not to be too obnoxious with affiliate ads. That includes only making posts promoting affiliate products.

But sure, the end of posts sounds good. Why not also links in the sidebar?

    Cheers,
    Stephen

I use a little resource box at the end of my blog post with a link directing them to my sales page , seems to work good for me

I agree with the previous comment about taking some time to build a readership before starting to promote affiliate products. Offer quality content in your posts to keep people coming back.

Maybe have a free giveaway for those that sign up to your list. A digital product that relates with your niche. That will help you gauge how many people are real visitors, and gives you a way to contact them in the future about products that you're promoting.

    Hope that helps.

In reality, everybody is right and everybody is wrong.

What I mean by that is that something that works for one person, on their blog, in their particular niche, may not work for you on yours.

The only way is to track and test to see what seems to convert best for you.

Your visitors are your best marketing and testing tool, use them wisely.
