Its no secret that the experts predict BIG things for QR Codes within the next year. If you dont know what they are already I suggest you go read up on what they are and how they can help you. You might have even seen them round your town and been curious!
I have set up an idea out of sheer curiosity, I do not want anything for this no payment or links anywhere. I have set up a domain and I want to get hundreds of QR codes to put on this website, The idea came to me from the Million Dollar Domepage.
So show me your QR code and I will host it on my site you have to do is send it to me, I will show it for as long as I can do on there. Tell your friends,Family and business partners the same all that I ask is that there is the usual disclaimer NOTHING illegal or dodgy or discriminatory.
If this becomes popular then its free exposure for you! No questions asked.

There are lots of places you can generate your QR Code. I recommend Google URL shortener. This generates the image for you. That way you can track its usage as well.

I agree that QR codes are going to be hot this year, but I think what makes them hot is that they can integrate offline and online.

I am not sure of the value of having a directory of unrelated QR codes. Kind of like a mixed directory. Maybe if they were categorized in some form or fashion it might be useful.

Who is going to look at a page of QR codes and start scanning each one to see what they are? Do you have some end goal in mind? Are they going to become categorized by business type or topic or subject matter?

It was done on a bit of a whim really. My end goal was to put hundreds of QR codes on a page and people scanned the page randomly and it went to that page. A bit like Stumbleupon meets the Million Dollar Home Page.

That's great in theory but what sort of people are going to scan codes randomly that could send them to virus infected sites, illegal porn sites, whatever. Tell me, do you often click on links in emails that you know nothing about? This is the same thing. Only foolish people would sit there and scan random codes.

There is that but there is that risk with EVERYTHING on the internet. Go have a look at Stumbleupon it could have that problem. Most people giving their QR Codes will be legit users just trying to promote there site. Besides most of the users would visit the site on the mobile device . . . At the moment less susceptible to Viruses etc etc

I would be a little more inclined to click on a link at Stumbleupon than some random website I have just come across. Besides, think about what you just said. Most people are going to be visiting the site on their mobile phone? How are they then going to scan the qr codes if they are viewing your website on their mobile phone?

Strikes me as a bit redundant. Aren't QR codes used primarily offline in order to facilitate quickly going to a website on a mobile device by scanning the code rather than typing in an URL?

So, if you're visiting a website, what's the advantage of listing a bunch of QR codes when you could simply list the URLs with clickable links themselves? The latter would also consume less hard drive space and bandwidth.

I just don't see the draw here.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

Agree. QR Codes act as a link from offline to online. I personally don't think a site that just has multiples of qr codes for you to scan and "see" what they are has much value. But that's just my opinion.

I honestly think its a great idea but which one do I choose they all look the same which bring me to offering custom qr codes. Not me but just the idea as I've seen some sites that does just that and customize each qr codes but nonetheless a great idea.

TJ - Google is not always an expert, they just think they know everything.

Good Point about all looking the same! I could start putting the link underneath each QR Code Or the user just snaps the page randomly and takes what they are given. Its a bit like QR Code Roulette!

A "random" button would be a nice feature if you are turning this into a website press it and the system chooses a QR code for you!

Man, TG... these guys are no fun... LOL

I totally get it... it's not meant to be a site that's
visited initially on their phone. They go to the site
on their PC and have a little fun scanning the codes.

For now QR Codes are kind of a novelty. I scan them
whenever I see them just to see where they go.

I think you could capitalize on it in the short term but
the novelty will wear off at some point.

Oh... and it would be easy for you to scan each submitted
code to ensure no funny business.

      Apparently not.

Anyway, I do agree it could work for a little but I think these QR codes will wear off very quickly. I wouldn't go to a page full of links that said 'Click Here' and sit there clicking random links all day. So I'm not sure why it would be any different with QR codes. Once you've scanned one or two the novelty starts to wear off.

This is quite a good way of doing things.

But I agree they are still kind of a novelty.
