Help Newbie With First Site!

Hello,

I'm just learning the ropes and threw up a quick wordpress review with some Amazon affiliate links:

nixon5130watch.com

Currently the site is getting around 30 hits/day (4 days old). When I google the term "nixon 5130 watch", I appear on the second page of results. What can I do and how difficult will it be to improve that? Also, how viable is the strategy of making tiny web pages reviewing/about a single product? (as opposed to one big niche site) in terms of making money?

Cheers.

  • Hey,

One BIG site is going to be better than one small niche site...

But what you got to concentrate on now is more quality content and even more so get more backlinks pointing to your site! However, GOOD JOB on getting on page 2 so soon.

Although, beware of the Google Dance your rankings will be bouncing around for the first few months before Google decides where to settle you in.

    Hope this helps
  • Micro niche websites are also great if you can manage to get a decent number of visitors. For your website, get a good theme and create backlinks.

    • Thanks. I didn't realize the second page was even good (it is after all when search for the phrase contained in the URL). So how do I go about getting backlinks? Hope people like my site and link to it? Post links to it in blogs/forums? Pay some company to do it?

What would you say is a "decent number of visitors"? (I.e., how many on average is needed for a conversion?)
  • Lots of ways to get backlinks;

    article marketing
blog posts - better if they are on relevant blogs
    forum memberships
get someone of Fiverr.com to build some good quality backlinks

Focus on conversions and not visitors, although I would consider anything over 1% is a decent conversion rate.

  • Friend before you go ahead i want to share one thing, you have used nixon in your main site url which is not allowed to do as per amazon associate programme, i m working with amazon more than a year and to be honest in the starting i did this mistake as well, i was lucky i havent got banned but few of my clients got banned due to my mistake..I publically apologies for those people...but friend i now i m aware and got confirmation from amazon itself..so my advice is not to go with this site or if you have still doubt on my statement just go to amazon itself and send a mail to get confirmation on what i just stated.

hope this helps someone who were innocent like i was one year back when i started with amazon.

    Thanks.

    • Thanks. But for now, I'll leave it as is. My aim here is more to get a grasp on the basics of generating traffic and conversions that to make money. I don't plan to be using the Amazon affiliate program in the long term in any case.

    • Plus amazon itself is on first page and if you try to come up in search results (amazon's page too will be in competition with you)then that too will be a TOS violation of amazon.
