Organic dog training traffic 2k+ conversion help?

I have a 'how to' in the dog training niche sitting on just over 2.2k uniques a month.

I work with mostly physical products and CPA so I'm not really sure what the basic conversion rate for info products should be. It's been running with a few banners and Exit Splash but I'm considering taking the time to convert the site to try and make sales from it. I've had a ton of hops and a few order form impressions but no sales yet.

I could change it to a sales page but I was thinking more 'Google Sniper' style and building a blog with a stickied product review/presell at the top.

My question to the WF:

With 2.2k uniques for 'how to' in the dog training niche what might I expect in sales with a bit of a presell post and one of the existing cb products?

I'm trying to decide if it's worth the time to try and convert or if i should try Amazon books or just flip the site.

Thanks for any help.

    Hi MonopolyMan,

    Thanks for your post mate!

The first thing you should focus on is doing
really awesome content (based on longtail keywords)
    and building your list.

Get them to opt-in to your email list so you can
build an asset. You then have the ability to recycle
your visitors by sending them to whatever offer you
    like after that.

I would also invest some time into learning some
    type of analytics.

You can either use google analytics
    Google Analytics | Official Website

    Or

You can use Piwik (I use this one)
Piwik - Web analytics - Open source

You can then track your pages and also
the keywords that are making your sales.

It doesnt really matter what everyone else
is doing, or what their conversions are, or what
    their traffic is.

The main thing is to know what yours is..and then
do everything in your power to improve yours.

Once you have your base statistics, you can
then work on improving them. But first you
need to know exactly where you are.

What can be measured can be improved.

    Hope that helps somehow?

      Thanks for the reply Michael!

I use Statpress to track the keywords of the traffic coming in and the cb products match what people are looking for.

I haven't actually built a list before, a year in IM and I'm yet to venture into email marketing but truth be told I'm working on about two dozen different domains at the moment with SEO projects I'd rather not have to tend to a list as well.

It's certainly on the 'todo' plan however and I could maybe tack it along with my side Facebook projects (more than one way to make a list!)

Plus with the dog training niche there's only a window of time where they need dog training. I'm more looking at direct linking and making a sale then and there.

I never had great experience promoting dog training guides. People are always looking for free guides to train dogs. Plenty of free info online.

Most of the dog owners I know (being one myself I know a lot) tend to have one but it's usually a physical one which is why I'm considering Amazon.

I went for the niche because I've seen it referred to as one of the more competitive niches and I wanted to test out some SEO projects. While I was working on the newer projects it aged and started to bring in the traffic so now I'm looking at monetization.

I put together a quick pre sells post and a link. Over the last couple of days I'm getting about 100-150 hops but 0 sales and two or three order form impressions.

This is the highest gravity dog training product on Clickbank I'm using and it's certainly targeted traffic.

Does info sites really convert at below 0.5% after the CTR onto a Clickbank link or do I need to improve my pre-sell?

    Hi Mate,

    Build your email list first.

If you dont get a sale on the first visit, you will be able
to rend them to that site (or other sites) and you have
    not wasted your original traffic.

You can recycle your hard work into other offers.

There are a couple of ways to do it. You can send them
to a squeezepage first and set your affiliate link as the
    thank-you page.

That way they still go through your link, but you build
    a list as well.

Atleast if you dont make the initial sale, you can build
a relationship with that list and also send them to other
    products in the future.

    Hope that helps?

best tip I have seen all day in here. Great stuff by the way micheal.

Once i did this...my whole life pretty much changed and I started making insane amounts of money. Enough to quit your job.

Some people do not see how simple it is, and how powerful email lists are. So i concur with dr michael, buildl your list and build a nice solid relationship...give and give and give till they buy your stuff.

I think in 2011 you have to give away more free cool stuff to convince people. Do not worry thougth it is not much work at all, especially if you like this stuff.

I know for the long term list building is the way to go but I was hoping to avoid that at least to start with. Oh well cheers for the advice and I'll start building this week.

This is my fourth info product in the top 5 getting traffic is niches such as dog training, weight loss and self help. Built around the basic 'Google Sniper' idea and one is even very close to the example used by George brown without a single sale.

I might swap to list building + Amazon physical book

yes, physical book is a good idea. grab something valuable from the book and make flashing ads everywhere, entice them to go to amazon they might buy something else.

you may also put on some adsense ads to take advantage, if there's any help.
