Made my first site...looking for advice?

Alright I've made my first site How To Make Solar Panels and I'm looking for advice on what I should do now?

I'm got my autoresponder up, few articles (adding one daily or every other day, totally unique), and I have one small banner ad that links to affiliate.

I've submitted one article to ezine.

I'm wanting to know what the next step is that I need to take?

Start building backlinks....go to socialadr.com and create an account. You will also create accounts at the different social sites. You then submit the link for each page of your site. Others will post your links to the social bookmarking sites and you will submit theirs....this way the links are being submitted from different computers (IP addresses) very cool.

I’m going to tell you my sincere opinion as a sister. I didn’t like the way you wrote the website’s title. It is childish. While the rest of the site is very serious and very good, the way you wrote its title in the beginning is so ugly that I simply wanted to close the page as soon as I opened it.

Congratulations for building your first site, though. You couldn’t do it perfectly from the beginning… I had to rebuild my first site 4 times until it became professional and nice; and there are still more things that I would change… but I decided to stop investing on improving the site, and care more about promoting it.

Now that you have your own site, your next 1000 steps are:

1- Promote it everywhere online. Write and submit everyday a new article to ezinearticles.com, create Squidoo lenses and Hub pages, posting your site’s link for promotion. You can also sell other products at your lenses and hubs. I have only 2 hubs because they considered my third article a duplicate one, while it was totally original, even though I had already written many articles about this topic online. I stopped writing hubs if they cannot verify what is good writing from copies. I’m having success by creating squidoo lenses. I’ve created already 29 lenses, and I see that my website visitors are staying longer at my sites because they come from these lenses, so they already have a nice image about my work.

I created a lens showing everyone how to easily create many lenses in a short period of time and how to get traffic. I had abandoned the idea of creating lenses in the beginning because I found it too hard… but later, I saw that it is very simple:

    http://www.squidoo.com/passive-income-website-traffic-squidoo-beginners-guide

This is the only lens I have about internet marketing, and it is getting more traffic than most of my lenses about mental health. All my other lenses are about mental health, self-help, etc.

You may have to pay for traffic, but don’t spend your money before using free methods. Study many posts in this forum. I don’t have time to tell you which the other 999 steps you must follow are.

    Take care!

Thanks for the feedback on the header logo. I thought it was appealing and the font gave off a DIY kind of feel. If more users give me the same feedback I'll go back and do some tweaking.

      Thanks for the other tips!

The header graphic makes the site. Keep it, it's excellent. The site is clean and unlike many sites that pile up mountains of text, your paragraphs are the perfect length.

Your headline is pretty simple and that's okay here. I'd maybe suggest you use a subheadline explaining why making solar panels is smart or perhaps, how easy it might be. You know your market so come up with something that will enhance the headline.

As for the site looking childish, as one poster says, phooey! You're not targeting corporate America, you're primary market is laid back ole Greeners. The image is perfect. Overall, you've done an excellent job. Now get busy promoting it.

When I first saw site the header immediately caught my attention. Which was good because it took me a minute to realize your using the standard wordpress theme.

I would add some images to your articles.

As for SEO start building back links now, or outsource it. Don't worry about velocity as Google won't see them all as soon as their built. Remember there is no sandbox... just the dance!

Also run a press release ($12 with PrNewsOnline.com) to get one good authority link straight out of the gate. I highly recommend you do this as quickly as you possibly can. Don't opt for a free PR submission either, pay for it and not only do you get some good link juice but you can drive some traffic too!

What does your competition look like? Keywords? Number of backlinks? This site is prime for doing some serious article submission as well.

Its actually not bad. I would however, make the widget box for the free ebook stand out a lot more. Its done in gray and practically disappears. Don't call it an ebook either and make the image shot larger.

  • For me, to start with your site is ok, no matter if the title looks childish (maybe it was your intention). Overall, I would split the text in shorter paragraph, making highligts, bullet points for the benfits or, well, points of interest. add a few picture.

    To promote:
write more articles and publish them on ezinearticles.com, goarticles.com,
consider submitting articles to ezines in your niche (google "solar panel newsletter" or "solar energy ezine")
    use digg.com, stumbleupon.com
    consider creating a Facebook fanpage
Use and create a new twitter account just for your site
maybe use a Squidoo lens (not sure after the last Google algorithm change)
try/Buy Market Samurai (7 days free trial): lots of good video tutorials for free
SEO: do you use the "all in one SEO" plugin?
Wordpress Plugins: search for what you need (e.g. rss feed, youtube videos)
Use pingomatic.com (free) at the end of each new post

I am sure there are more things to do, but perhaps this could help.

It's okay. I would try and ad some pics of actual solar panels. Preferably those built by regular people. You could also maybe, expand on your title/headline. If your main reason for this blog is to sell the solar panel product, explain why or the benefits of building your own panel in a sub or pre headline.

Next step is to scale up your postings and build backlinks. Video would be great too for this type of site!

Couple of questions--how should I go about getting started on a high velocity backlink campaign (Still learning all of this stuff) and could you go into more details about the press release? I know they are the hot new thing right now, but don't know much about them.

Going to redo my web form soon. The standard sidebar was very narrow and I was struggling to make it look good. But I found out how to widen the sidebar and now I've got to redo the web form for it.

10 second timer? I may make a squeeze/landing page that I can use that has a place for them to opt-in and then it'll redirect to my blog. That way I can post it in places such as Yahoo Answers, and other places I'm assuming (such as forums and blog comments?).

Start building (or outsourcing) link building immediately. Thats what I mean by high-velocity. Don't wait. Start doing it now. I would stay away from Xrumer if your site is brand new as that will cause it to dance uncontrollably.

Get links from home pages with high page rank. That means your link is placed within content on root domain with high PR. They can get costly, but ten of these links will do more than thousands of meaningless profiles will.

There is also a guy (no its not me) in the Warrior for Hire section who offers a mixed link building campaign. You can get good stuff from him.

As for press releases? I can only speak from personal experience. Doesn't matter if my site is brand new or months old. A $12 press release submission with OnlinePRNews.com always works in my favor. I've concluded that its because the links come from an extremely trusted source, thus Google pushes you up further and further.

Couple that with a solid link building campaign--high Pr links on root domains and mixed link building--and you will find that your site gains trust very quickly. Of course you could toss some .edu and .gov links in their but the cost alone for a good link (again permanently placed on a ROOT domain--homepage) could prove futile if your not in a lucrative enough niche.

But enough of that. If you have any questions just ask or PM me!

I really can't stand the header graphic either. As someone else said, it made me want to close the page immediately. the site of the site looks very good though. one thing I noticed (I'm not sure if it's already been said):

your "confirm navigation" popup "to see this exclusive extra discount... just click [cancel]" doesn't have a "Cancel" button. just "leave this page" or "stay on this page." it's a minor thing and obviously folks will probably understand it but just for continuity purposes... either change the "cancel" part or the buttons.

congrats on your first site and good luck!

I agree with most warriors who are here, keep the header, is eye-catching effect and this is a very good thing. After you bring traffic to your blog you can start making money with adsense! Account is free and you can have a pretty good profit if you have the necessary traffic, trying to buy backlinks from fiverr. I recommend fiverr because costs are lower and the quality pretty good.Read this http://www.warriorforum.com/adsense-...iverr-com.html Most importantly, you must continue to progressively add articles to your blog. Good luck !

    Hi MichaelG469

I have come across just what you need , in the form of A WSO sold by a fellow warrior
    named CraigRC

it's 9$ it has everything you need to make sure :

    1) that you have done your keyword research properly
    2) that you structure your site properly
    3) Back linking strategies

It would absolutely covers what you are asking here. And whilst you could carry on entertaining the helpful conversation on this thread, I think you should cut to the chase and buy that education.

If 9$ is an issue for you now...I'll paypal you 10 and you can write me a couple of articles

The sooner you do this , the sooner you can get off this thread and go back to work on your promising website.

Incidentally,I would like to see more pictures to enliven the site (make them relevant to the articles) and also a video to keep the visitor engrossed.

I wish you the very best of success.

    Manuel

traffic traffic, and then more traffic.

but make sure you are hanging out in places and environments that have a nice list of customers that have money and are craving for stuff you are offering.

To get more out of your on page SEO bold main keywords. You should also mark than clickbank banners with nofollow attribute: copy and paste this code to your link: rel = "nofollow" this is just to stop your PR leakage. Also mark all links with pages that are not important with nofollow tag.

Your posts are not interlinked. Plus you have only 3 of them. Blog wants to be fed and if you're not willing to spend too much time on this blog than take your existing content and crate 3 static HTML content pages plus privacy policy and contact us or whatever.

Use services like onlywire.com (submission to over 45 social bookmarking services) and posterous.com (publishing network) to build your inbound links.

use PPC once you have tested your site and know it converts.

You only need $20-$30 dollars to give it a try and if it works up the stakes.

Made a squidoo lense today, learning something everyday! But I guess the next major step I want to take is to start a backlink campaign of some sort (seems to be the consensus). Whats your take on this? Aggressive (is it too risky, site is 2 months old) or conservative? And how exactly do I go about getting backlinks? I know forum posts, blog posts, etc but how do I find these things? And if anyone has any success with good quality fiverr gigs or WSO's or any other program let me know. I'm a 23 year old school teacher, so the budget isn't out of this world, but I can spend a little.

      Thanks
