Whats the best video editor?

I have Ulead VideoStudio 11 and it's good but if there is something better or more powerful I'd like to learn it as I know it will help me overall.

I am working on my first squeeze page and want to make up a nice punchy video to help with conversions.

I know I could have someone do this for me but please save the offers. I need to learn how to do this myself. I could do it with Ulead, but like I said if one stands above the other I'd like to know.

I used to edit with Expression web and damn am I glad I switched to XsitePro 2 after someone suggested it. I don't want to make the same mistake twice.

Thanks

I'd go with market leader Adobe.
Premiere elements should be good enough.

I use "Movie Edit Pro" from Magix.

A really intuitive, easy to use software with endless possibilities.

    Very good for video-editing newbies.

Frankly I hate Adobe Premiere... I prefer Sony Vegas Pro or Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum...

But I am convinced that if you are planning on a career or at least a constant hobby of video production that Final Cut Pro is the most powerful solution to learn... maybe add a little Adobe After Effects to the mix.

I think by far and away the easiest to use is camtasia studio. It's practical and does just about everything that you could need including screen capture and editing, also you can extract audio from the video and make MP3 s -I think it's a fabulous!

I've used several packages, and though I don't own it myself (due to the price) I have to agree that Sony Vegas is the best, most versatile package for the PC platform.

However, I would suggest that before you invest in anything like this, you make the most of the software you already have. Only move up when you find yourself constantly coming up against things that it simply can't do (as opposed to things that YOU simply can't make it do! ).

If you're struggling for any particular functionality, post a question here - someone may be able to tell you how to make your current software do what you're looking for.

You may well find that if you become an expert in the software you already own, then you won't need to spend money on anything more powerful. Unless you're planning on making the next movie blackbuster....

Sony Vegas for most jobs, but for big budget Final Cut or Avid, Adobe Premier has a very HIGH learning curve.

    Pricey though I suppose....

The best NLE to use is the one your most comfortable with. Almost every manufacturer offers a free 30 day trial. Take advantage of it and see which NLE most fits you and the way you like to work.

Most have the same capabilities and most will be able to do what you need done.

The only caveat would be if you're going to be doing work that is passed along to others (such as production houses etc.). If this is the case you'd be better off going with Avid or Final Cut Pro because that's what they use.

Having said all that I use Sony Vegas (Sony Movie Studio is a lite version that offers most of what Vegas does). It's a powerful editor and it is very user friendly. Vegas was originally developed as an audio editing platform and performs that job well also.

    Hope this helps.

I got Sony Vegas, using it was total cake, similar to ulead.

I wish I could find more powerful transitional effects (I have looked) but it is more powerful than U-lead and almost easier to use.

I can do what I need to do with this software.

You can try out Video Spin. Once you are done editing the video, it can directly upload the clip to online video sharing sites like Yahoo Videos or YouTube. Video Spin can even output movies directly in Flash Video (flv) format.

Sony Vegas is about the easiest most powerfull program for what we do on the net. Obviously if you want to do professional work then premier for PC but in the end Final Cut Pro on a Mac is the best you can get.

Having said this I worked in a studio for a while and they used Avid which is an industry standard but they used to sneak out every now and then and use my Sony Vegas because of its speed and ability to do some cool stuff.

You can get quite a few different plugins to increase its ability.

Here are some to get you started.

I have Sony Vegas myself but I'm not yet good enough
to make my own video presentation yet.
I just had a new video done for my web page
and it was done by a professional who used Sony Vegas and added
      some adobe after effects.
I was very impressed when I saw it for the first time and it seems to
get better each time I look at it.
Although, after seeing his video work, I think I'll stick to my doing my voice-over's, ha ha.
If you really know how to use the equipment that you already have,
I think that would be just fine.
But again, your talking to a non-professional when it comes to making videos.
But I do know "Fantastic" when I see it.

I'm not self promoting by saying this, but the video is on the web page
if you want to see the quality.
I think that if you've already got Sony, and you add some after effects
to your arsenal, than that's all you need.

Wow, that is a nice video, it's not self promoting that is totally related to this post I started....

If you don't mind me asking what did it cost you to have that done? I intend to learn myself but it's always nice to know things.

Thanks! I did the video at Blazing PLR ...After Effects and Sony Vegas Pro.

I think the pricing thing was addressed but as mentioned, it was greatly reduced.

Just to add my input on editors:

          * Camtasia and Vidual Communicator are great video creation tools but are not NLE's (Non-linear editors). They suffer tremendously in terms of flexibility and functionality.

          * Adobe Premier Elements is a decent program for the money but really geared to the home movie enthusiast. Again, not quite as useful but can be satisfactory if used creatively.

          * I find that Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum is the best overall bang-for-buck. I also recommend the "Pro" version of Movie Studio which includes some really nice extras like Cinescore for sweet music tracks, Sound Forge Audio Editor, 106 3D transitions from NewBlue, and 1,001 sound effects.

At $114 you can't beat what you can do with it.

The bigger point I think is that:

          It almost doesn't matter.

If you take the time to scout out all the features of any given program and then exploit them with creativity...if you have a clear plan and purpose (with a call to action), and if you "edit like you mean it" you can make effective videos with anything...

I use Visual Communicator because it's a fast way to

    editor though.

      Hi Mark.
I wanted to produce the full audio, write the script and do the voice over myself,
since I have had considerable time spent doing television and radio commercials.
      That didn't cost me anything.
It's something that I have enjoyed doing for many, many years.
If a person was paying someone to do the voice over it might cost about $100.00 per minute.
I am considerably less than that, by the way.

The video itself was a promotional run with his first time use of Adobe After Effects,
so I was charged less than the normal price might be.
It ran me about $200 but like I say, it was a first time run with the new video editing software,
so I'm not exactly sure what the real charge would be.
Probably not a whole lot more than that.

Anyway, video outsourcing can have a very wide range in pricing.
I've seen a lot of videos that were less than what I would call perfect and they probably
      paid through the nose. (Sorry)!

The person that I use works with me hand in hand on the projects.
I do all of the audio and he does all the visual.
It all works out pretty nice for the one on the receiving end, if I do say so myself...

Okay... I know that I'm starting to go there, so I'll turn it off now.
      Good day.

There is a pretty cheap alternative with avsmedia.com because you can get an entire suite of software for something like $59 that includes a video editor, audio editor, file compressor, file converter and more.

    Plus the learning curve nominal.

  • If you're on a PC, the market leader is Adobe Premiere but that is used in Hollywood so it might be overkill for an IM project!

I like Sony Vegas. It's been easy for me to use and understand. Just find your video file and edit as you see on the screen. Nothing to it really and easy to add audio.

The prices is $55 and they give you a 30 day trial.

Sony Vegas offers a lot of bang for the buck. I've used it for years with great success, and I helped one of my students launch a business that essentially uses Sony Vegas as the primary and almost sole piece of software.

    Good stuff.
