Cheap .com domain names?

Is there any place I can get a cheap .com domain name? I already know the domain I want but on godaddy I think it's $12. Is there any place cheaper? Or any coupons for cheaper domains?

"ILUVMOM" is a Namecheap discount coupon for May 2011, and you can get free privacy protection included if you buy there. No promises, but you might get a .com for $8.81 with that coupon.

  • Glad it worked for you, OP.

For others who might also be looking, Godaddy has a special going on all month with this code: cjc749chp - $7.49 - .com domain registration

These do not come with privacy protection, though.

I have looked and looked for years, and I still keep coming back to netfirms.com. The promo code "promo495" or "love" gets you your first year for only $4.95, and then after that it's only 7.99 a year. PLUS, you get free privacy with that. Most other domain providers charge you an additional 10 bucks for privacy. But, you need to make sure you enable privacy on each domain you purchase. I switched all my domains from godaddy over to netfirms.

Yep, netfirms.com with the promo495 works with free privacy included upon your selection. Just check your account if you pay via paypal. They will enroll you in a subscription for renewal, which is great if you want that, but in case you prefer manual control, double check both your paypal account subscriptions/recurring payments and inside your netfirms account to see if renewal is automatic or manual.

I've been with godaddy since I've started. I'm thinking about changing but I'm not sure if I'm willing to. Also, why is paying extra for privacy important?

The last few domains I registered at GoDaddy I used promo code "Fan3" and that drops the price to $7.67. This changes every so often so just do a quick search on Google if the code isn't working anymore.

This is what I want to know. How is paying for privacy worth an extra $10?

        Great question.

I think getting privacy protection can be a good thing and a bad thing.

Good: If you are trying to hide your info (obvious i know)

Bad: If you are trying to sell something through your website. If people aren't willing to put their info on their domain, it makes it harder for me to trust them when buying something from them.

Well, you don't have to have privacy if you don't want to, but if you don't have privacy, then anyone in the world can do a "whois" search on your domain name, and voila...they have your home phone number, your home address and your name. Whatever information you used to register your domain name is available for the whole world to see. I personally don't feel comfortable having all that information available for anyone to see. So, to me privacy is essential. But, I don't want to pay extra for it. That's why I use netfirms, because it's included for free. And their domain names are cheaper than everyone else's. Does that help?

I absolutely love and recommend Dynadot.com for domains. It's $8.99 for a .com, an additional $2 for privacy - but here's what I love...

If I make a mistake on a domain name choice, I have 120 hours to "return" the domain and get a credit to my account! So if I jump the gun on a domain and then do some research and decide it's not a good domain, I simply return it. That's why I stick with Dynadot. I've never used anyone else.

There's a bulk list of working coupon on retailmenot.com

The minimum price of a domain that can be purchased on Godaddy would be $1, or $7.49

Here's a nifty little domain coupon site I usually check out before I purchase a new domain. Domain Promo Codes - Largest Domain Registrar's Live Promo Codes (I'm not affiliated with it in any way)
