GabFire (Newspaper theme) help!!

Just bought the advanced newspaper theme from

You have to wait until your approved for the forums to get access to the tutorials on how to use the specific functionality for this theme.. THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING..

I bought it.. I would like access to the tutorials right away as I have paid in full..

Is there anyone out there using this theme that can direct me to any other tuts out there for this theme?

    I feel your pain. I was fortunate enough to be able to download this theme as a free download from E Brian Rose ( A contributor here).

    Because I don't know my way around the theme, I numbered the widgets.



    Then I looked at the main page..now I know where the widgets belong on the page.



    But, as you can see, the widgets do not control the corner square (I put a ? there)

    So does anyone know how to populate the corner?...a photo essay or video showing what to do would be nice coz I'm crap at written instructions.

    Finally, this theme is all over the web as a free download and was given to me legitimately from another forum but Gabfire (who own the theme) say that because I have not bought the theme, then they cannot offer support.

    In anycase, I will buy the theme anyway so I can get the support.

    Hey. I use this theme extensively for many of my sites. It is by far the best magazine theme going, and the support is absolutely the best I have ever seen. (And I am not in any way affiliated with this company.)

    You can see two of my sites here:

    nude-times-com (created for a client -- and its up for sale)

    The theme works beautifully out of the box, but I have made many php changes to tweak things.


    The theme is easy to use once you get used to it. Just go to your theme control panel and browse around -- try things -- test things -- and soon you will be an expert.

        You might try actually buying the theme for the support. It is a commercial theme and I think Gabfire would appreciate it if you actually paid for it.

          I agree wholeheartedly. But if the theme is legitimately available as a free download, which it is, then surely asking a few question isn't amiss. The big plus of buying themes are the updates (sometimes critical ones). So if this theme is for me then I will buy it.

            I don't agree that it is available legitimately as a free download. It is a commercial theme sold by Gabfire and I see nothing in their terms of service that allows you to give it away for free. I have a developer's license for that theme and many other themes and I've never seen premium commercial themes that the owner "allowed" someone to just give away without paying for it.

            But to clear up any misconceptions, why don't you just shoot Gabfire support an email and ask them what they think about their product being given away.

              I have written to Gabfire support and sent this message

              "I have found elsewhere on the internet that your theme Advanced Newspaper being offered as a legitimate free download.
              Please advise me that this theme can/cannot be used with your consent".

              I have also included in the email the site that I downloaded the theme from.
              Can I post the site url here?

              I will report back and let you know the outcome.

                  Thank you very much for contacting us regarding this. Unfortunately, there are some who just share the themes for free but we can't do anything about it. You can certainly use the theme offered on that website. The only disadvantage you have when you take the free download over the paid one is that you don't get free theme upgrades and no help with customization or other theme related questions as only paid members get access to these features.

                  So there we are. I can use the theme and if I like it then I will certainly buy it. I have to say in all honesty that the support from Gabfire is quite superb. They have got back to me within a few hours. If this is typical of their support then buying a theme from them is a no brainer.

                    There you go. Gabfire is a great theme company and their support and updates to their themes are well worth the small amount they charge for them. Very nice reply you got back from them.

        If you are putting video/images into a defined widget location -- no problem. If you want o place video/images at any other location, it will take some CSS and PHP skill.

        Please be specific as to the location.

        If you are referring to the front page image slider (upper left) then all you need to do is to tag images in your post editor as "Featured Image" and then designate a category for the image slider, and place all posts you want displayed (along with their featured images) into that category.

        Get very familiar with the Theme Control Panel -- try stuff, make mistakes, its not difficult but some things are not perfectly obvious.

    I absolutely agree -- buy the theme! Don't ask others to help you and support you if you are not willing to support others -- and be honest.

    The guys at Gabfire are the great -- I am a loyal fan. Don't steal from them.

    I have extensive experience with the advanced newspaper theme and am willing to help any legit owner...

      Hey everyone
      I like to think that I am an honest person and I don't intentionally steal. I downloaded the theme in good faith......infact, I bought the theme today.

      One thing I have learned from my 'trial and error' is what widget goes where on the page.
      And I realize that the widgets do not control the front page slider. I am terrible with written instructions so I will have to see a photo essay or video of what to do.

      Like Kim said in the first post on this thread I too am waiting to be accepted in the forum.

      And hopefully for the last time.....Kim, I apologize for hijacking your thread.
