How to make it so your Thank You page doesn't get indexed on Google/Bing/Yahoo?

So I'm wondering, since clickbank requires you make a thank you page, how do you prevent it from being indexed?
#google or bing or yahoo #indexed #make #page

Add in this meta tag toward the top of the HTML page:

    [code]<meta name="ROBOTS" content="NOINDEX,NOFOLLOW">[/code\]

So long as the particular search engine obeys that request.

Yes. Don't rely on just the meta tag to keep your page out of the SE's. Apparently not all SE's obey that tag. A download protector like DL Guard or Easy Click Mate also offer other advantages and can help minimize digital theft for you.

    I use DLGuard.

Another option is to periodically change the name of your thank you page.

Or use a form so that nothing will display unless the proper information has been posted to the thank you page.

No need to SHOUT the tags...

    <meta name='robots' content='noindex,nofollow' />
And yes, don't just rely on that tag if you are trying to protect your download page. I would suggest using a more secure solution. You don't want to just stop your download page being found. You want to also stop it from being shared around.

Thanks Will, on the page it says the trick doesn't work if you don't convert your .html to .php. How can you do that? Is it as simple as renaming the file?
Can it still be easily edited in dreamweaver?

You want to make sure the search engines hear them.

The meta tag is separate from the PHP offered on the page. The PHP code requires you to use a .php page. The meta tag will work fine on a .html page.

    Here's a tip about Clickbank...

They require a thank you page, but they don't require the thank you page have download links on it, just something about the credit card being charged by "keynetics"

For my clickbank product I simply have a normal thank you page minus the download links... I use DPD to deliver the file and then they are returned to the "thank you" page...

So just because they require a thank you page doesn't mean you can't keep your product secure... You could also send it via autoresponder if you wanted to...

You will just need to disallow access to that website through the Robots.txt file located in your root. It's very important that you read this, because modifying the robots.txt file is now the recommended way to stop Google from crawling some websites and a good implementation will help you save link juice in the pages you want to rank to.

Best Info of what is Robots.txt and how to modify it:
      tools.seobook.com/robots-txt/

Best Tool I've that generates Robots.txt files.:
      tools.seobook.com/robots-txt/generator/

Robots.txt will work for Google, but not everything. It also won't stop people from going to your thank you page via the URL if they are looking for it that way. I agree with everyone's suggestions about changing the name or using a third party application to protect your website.

Is switching to php as simple as renaming the file?
I want to use the php code on the site will recommended. It like protects it unless they have a matching receipt or something.

As long as your server supports php files then yes, all you need to do is rename your page from page.html to page.php and add the relevant code Wilson suggests.

Note: Most servers do support php these days. If you can run a Wordpress blog on your server then you are able to use PHP.

Try using random variables and numbers for the html name versus "download page."

A simple trick I use sometimes is to have all your text as a graphic - so nothing for Google to find and index.

Just type your text in Word/Open Office/Notepad - take a screen shot and crop it or use a snipping tool. Save the graphic and then upload it to your site.

Same with the download link - Use a linked graphic saying "Click here to download" and random letters as your download and thank you page names.
