Will Pop Ups Hurt Blog

Hey guys, appreciate all of the great content and help on this forum.

I have been researching the pro's and con's about having a pop up on my blog to capture subscribers for my newsletter.

Some say google will slap you for doing so and hurt your search engine rankings, while others say the pop up will not effect you.

Any thoughts and experience on this would be great.

Thanks

    Hi Rob,

as I know it, pop ups doesn't effect your Google PR.
But I prefer doing regular section on the corner of the website because pop ups sometimes push away potential buyers.

    Cheers

pop-ups that interfere with site navigation is what google doesnt like, and they also don't like if you have popups and google adsense adslots on the same page.

popunders are fine if they open in a new window and go behind the current page being viewed. Popunders that are on the page (like you frequently see on yahoo.com frontpage) with adsense on the same page is a gray area, my opinion in that case it's better to have one or the other not both

You should put some thought into how the visitor might react as well.. I for one HATE popups of all kinds. Though I'm sure they can be effective in some cases.

I personally don't like things that move around on my screen while I am trying to read, but that is just my personal opinion. It is possible that popups might increase your optin rate.

But optin rate is just a figure to start with, what counts more is what you do with the subscribers after you have them.

It would be a really good thing to test to see which works better for you.
