Ebook Vendors and affiliates: What's an appropriate clearance period?

Hell, all.

I'm about to go live with an informational product for the first time. I wanted to know when, in your experience, most refunds occur so I can set an appropriate clearance period before paying affiliates.

I don't want to pay commissions on sales that end up being refunds, but I also don't want to make the affiliates wait too long to get paid.

Thoughts?

I don't think anyone can actually answer this question. It depends on the product and the kind of traffic that gets to the product.

The safest way to do this until you get stats for your product, is to pay after the refund period is over.

Or you could set an arbitrary percentage and say 25% immediately, 50% after 2 weeks and 25% after refund period, with the caveat that the last 2 payments will be made only if no refund has been requested. I think this option will be harder to manage though.
