How much time do you waste online ?

Personally I spend way too much time online, mainly trying to promote sites by building backlinks. Unfortunately it seems very hard to get a decent site to link to you , and even those that do are often nofollow links.
I am wondering if all the effort and time spent is really worthwhile as its speculative if I will make any money in the end, (even if I do get a site to the top of google it seems that they can change the algorithm overnight and drop my site with no warning or explanation).

Does anyone else have the same feelings, and is there a better way ?

I tend not to worry about SEO, just concentrate on create good quality content. After all no SEO technique is really evergreen if G can just change what it wants when it wants, is it?

    Maybe I'm wrong.

I do know that it will never say "good content? away with you to page 1 billion" maybe too far, but you get me.

I tend to just use blog commenting as a platform to "steal" other top blogs visitors, rather than for a "vote" from G.

Apart from that, I waste waaayyy too much time online by chatting to friends and liking pointless groups on FB just for the sake of it, rather than actually getting stuff done.

That's my biggest time wasting downfall rather than the kind you mentioned.

I need to hire a hand slapper for whenever they see me typing "face...." into my browser!

Doing stuff because people tell you to is no use, you gotta know why you're doing it and how it's going to be beneficial to your business.

    My thoughts on it anyway,

    Use an auto-backlinking software.

I use Senukex and I love it. It recently took one of my sites from page 6 of google to page 2 after only one campaign.

That's awesome! How are the links created and where? Like I said above, I only really use back linking to "steal" other peoples traffic. Does it post link at other high traffic blogs/sites?

      Thanks!

P.S Sorry About Thread Jacking! :S

I spend a lot of time online trying to grow my business. But what really pisses me off is that a guy in #1 search results have a crappy 2 page websites with a total content size of around 500 words. It is not fair that he is #1 and I have 15x500 words article/posts and I don't even show up in the top 100

as per my last quote, and totally agree! fake sites for flogging dodgy affiliate products was not what the internet was created for, and it gives the rest of the IM community a bad name. Long live real content written by real people for real people. Cheers

It depends on your definition of waste, and what else you would be doing with that time.

I would rather read stuff online or work on my sites than watch most of the garbage on TV, especially during the day. How many Judge shows do we need? or the stupid Housewives shows?

Yes, currently I am living on the net and doing the blog and forum posting thing. but I always make sure I give real answers, rather than many sites which are full of comments like "I really love what you just said" or "i agree totally!" basically because its just polluting the sites to get a signature link back.

it is much more time consuming, but I feel the day of reckoning is coming where google finds out how to ban senuke users so that the field is even again, and people are forced to manually submit unique content that is of value. I get that not all senuke users go black hat, but seriously, its a tool for spamming the hell out of everything. and just a little too tempting for people who make money managing ridiculously large numbers of sites.

and I agree totally with you. getting a high PR (PAGE) not just the homepage, having dofollow links and vaguely associated with your niche is next to impossible - unless you are in IM exclusively, but is that a niche or just a selling methods we all use?

Anyway, like a friend of mine regularly says, many lines of text to go before sleep.

    enjoy the merry go round.

I honestly only think of maybe an hour a day as wasting my time online. When I am online I am usually researching for articles, promoting my websites, or looking for clients to write for. The only time that could be thought of is wasting is my social instant messaging and time spent checking my personal Facebook, and even that is necessary or I would get lost in my work from lack of social contact!

I'm online almost 10 hours a day... and i really don't think i am wasting my time.. Coz being online, is like linking with the world!!
And yes it really hurts when your site gets low in SERP's .. but there is no point to stop what we do.

I'm online quite a few hours per day. However, I don't think I'm 'wasting' time per se. As long as we focus on finding effective ways of growing our businesses, it's time well spent

The amount of time I waste online is directly proportionate to the number of times I open the Warrior Forum.

Just kidding. I learned long ago that only a regimented schedule will keep me focused on hitting my goals.

So, in my day planner, there's a one hour block with "Waste Time Doing Something You're Never Going To Be Good At" penciled in. And that's usually the time I spend hitting a bucket of balls at the driving range.

I spend 8-9 hours a day online at work and then an additional 1-3 hours a day at home. In short: too much.

I have a bad habit of getting diverted by looking up various random stuff on YouTube. I will be writing an article or something similar, get bored and find myself looking some band I used to listen to years ago. Must be more focused!!!
