I will teach you 'How I made USD360 yesterday' for only $0...

Yeah, I was just mimicking Fiverr's style...

But, it wasn't a joke that I DID make USD360 yesterday...really..what I did? Ok, the method was simple.

1) I paid a guy to post an Ad on Craiglist for pretty cheap. The Ad was like "I am offering FREE Logo Design service for the first 5 people".
2) After about 8 hours when I checked my gmail, I got 6 emails. I then asked for their number, which they happily gave.
3) I called them (thru Skype) and talked like 10 minutes to each, asking about how they want the design to be.
4) So I took some time to create them cool logos, and when it was ready I emailed it over to them and called them again.
5) I told them 'here you go sir, by the way I can do a cool Website Design for your PLAIN website for only USD180.
6) 2 of them agreed and voila!

Thats how I made USD360!

....now, where is that cool Casio Edifice watch that I saw the other day...

    Hey thats pretty cool!!!

    Simple in the people who
    would respond would be
    business owners of some
    sort.

    And this loss leader could
    work in other markets as
    well and it already has.

    Good reminder

Although I dislike your title as it makes it sound making money is easy, this quote makes up for it completely.

Most folks forget that you have to learn something to make money. The OP tried and failed th first time, learnt from, analysed what happened, made some changes and tried again.

I always believe in a rule of 3 in business, and it is something i drill into my coaching clients. If you are trying some kind of advertising make sure you are prepared to try it three times before giving up. Each time improve something as it is often just something you need to change before you see good results.

To many people give up too easily, you however have proved perseverance is the way forward.

Ha ha...now I know my title does work...You are 100% correct DK. In the initial period, my soul had a great debate with my mind on whether to call these people or not. And finally both said 'what the heck, just DO IT'

Nice one. Loss leaders definitely work but it would be interesting to try charging a SMALL amount, like, well $5, and ensuring that your leads are buyers from the start. I mean, everyone likes free stuff, but not everyone is a buyer, right? Though 2/5 is pretty good!

Who says you can't earn money as an eBay affiliate any more? My stats say otherwise

You are right actually, got to sharpen my weapon in the next hunt. Coz some of them became VERY suspicious bout why i'm giving it free.. They all asked "are you sure I'm gonna get it free?".

I have seen that work well on sites like fiverr. People offer writing, backlinks, etc for $5 and then give a bit of a pitch when they deliver their work. Like, "hey, by the way, I can also do... blah blah blah..." and a lot of people seem to take them up on it. You just have to get around the "don't give out your contact info" rule or you can just have people buy multiple "gigs."

anyway... congrats to the OP! that's great man.

So you got 6 emails, did 6 free logo's and 2 went on and bought the paid ones at $180?

You know what I'd do, with that 33.3% conversion rate?

      I'd do it again today!

I guess it depends how much work is involved in your $180 website? If it's 3 days work, then I guess doing this every day is not a viable prospect? If it's just quick cookie-cutter sites then you are in business

Actually, I wanted to ask: you can pay a third party (Fiverr or whatever) to do this, right? Because some of us do not have access to Craigslist because of geographical location so this could be handy...

This isn't anything to be worried about, because even if he had to outsource this work, he could find find scores of talented and skilled web designers from DP and this forum that will do amazing web design work for around $50 or so - the trick would be to find good and reliable workers to outsource this to, and this would free him up to focus on marketing and getting more clients, which would of course lead to making more money!

Craigslist has fairly strict Geo-IP restrictions in place, and you'll have to outsource the work to someone else if you're going to target a foreign country (or fool around with proxies yourself, which can get time consuming and problematic, especially if you don't do this on a regular basis).

Well actually folks, you know..I got this little inspiration after reading 'The Science Of Getting Rich'. At one part the author (Wallace D.Wattles) said something about 'giving people more in use value than the cash value they give us'.

It stuck me there that if at first I can get people to be amazed with I am offering, then it will be very easy for me to earn their trust. And that is how I came up with this concept.

(PS: Its a good book you know, had opened my mind in so MANY ways, trust me. You can get it free, just ask our Google uncle)

  • Congratulation to you Sathia. Great effort. Fiverr quite like a goldmine.

But there is a question for you that I was doubted about Fiverr.
Is there possible that can sell PLR stuff in 5 bucks ? Or else selling services like help a person to create Twitter account and help follow 5000 followers, is that OK with this kind of strategy ?

I was information overloaded, and don't know how to monetize it , hope can give some answer and suggestion thanks ya !

No Alan, I did not use Fiverr to post ad on Craiglist. I paid a US guy that my fren had dealt with. Only now I know that we actually have warriors down here in the WF that offfer such service...shud try it next time.

Bout selling PLR in Fiverr, yes personally I tried that and got like 2 sales in 2 weeks. You can try it too, but I won't recommend to make it as your main source of income. You must first look at the Top Selling gig and get some ideas, their product, their description, tag words n so on.

Your service must be able to please your customers. Deal with them honestly, and help them all out. Just keep on building this positive energy, you will see some result!

Sure, no prob. I changed the way I sounded in the ad.
My 1st Ad was like "Hi Sir/Madam, we are offering free logo design, please kindly contact us bla bla"- very humble n gentle. Had a few responds but not that convincing.
So my 2nd Ad was like " We are offering free logo design to first 5 people in regard of our business launch. Only legitimate business owners will be considered etc etc" - u know, try to sound more serious ...and it worked!

I placed 3 Ads, and he charged me $5.00 per Ad.

Maybe you can try to offer better service than the Most Popular Gig. But outweigh your hours 1st, if it took you 2 hours just to complete one gig (when you receive order), then I don't think it is worth $5, right?

That's quite high, you shouldn't be paying much more than $1 per Ad. Try to shop around for better rates if you decide to do this again.

I agree, $5 is too high for the ad and I suspect the person who placed it knows that.

Having said that, I'd happily pay $15 for a $360 return, any day of the year

Thanks guys, good to know my thread has given you some value. And sure, I will let you know if there is any new tip on this method. Yes I know $5 per Ad is too high, but since it was my 1st trial I just go with it. Will get it done cheaper next time!

One story to share with you all, there was this one client who rejected my offer when I offer him to design website for $180. This guy has a very very plain looking website. I like the guy though, he sounded very honest and down to earth during the call. So you know what I did? I downloaded a free html template, added some nice graphics, headers, logo etc..and just give to him at NO CHARGE. He was really happy and surprised and insisted to pay me at least $100, but I denied. He kept on thanking me again and again. You may ask why I did that? Well, it just took me 45 minustes for his website, not much an issue to techie people like us, but I just feel happy knowing I had made someone's day.

Great story and great result!...were it me, I'd immediately test 2 or 3 higher prices for the web design. You're way low, but let the market tell you where you need to be.

I'll bet charging a tiny amount for the LOGO will produce a better client who will pay a higher web design price as well. ...but still, kudos for putting it all together!

I tried this out after I read your great post and I got a client about an hour after I posted the ad. I've gotten pretty good results with posting in the small biz section but test around for what works best for you.

I'm thinking of charging them around $20- 40 for the logo if they like it. Then I know I'll be more likely to upsell them on web design.

Offering your services for free is alright but I tend to try not to do that as a lot of people will expect other things you offer to be free also. Maybe that's just me though...

    1. You got creative and offered something people want in a new way
    2. You tried again when it didn't work the 1st time
    3. You were willing to work
    4. You treated people with dignity and respect and were helpful

That was bold of you and it worked out well. My only concern is that if you were to get larger responses, creating free logo for lots of people could be very time consuming. I agree with Bruce on this - You may want to charge a small fee for the logo to make for your initial effort.

      Hello Sathia,

Many business owners need other services too. Since you are building such a personal relationship with your clients have you considered getting them to opt in to your list so you can sell them things like...

A newsletter course...or set up a newsletter for them...charge to maintain it...and you could also get an affiliate commission for the account...

I definitely would not let the relationship you have built with the customers be the end. They trust you and they like you and if you stay in touch you can have a real business going in no time.

Do they need SEO services...? Most business do?

Try to make your Ad sound a little bit bold and professional and put some urgency too. Use lots of 'you' in the ad. And maybe you can tell them that those who are lucky to get the free offer will be entitled for a free consultation for their business - where you will comment on their need for a better SEO, or anything and close it as an upsell.

      That's cool man!

      I have some suggestions.
Always stick to your words, deliver them the logo as you promised in your Ad. This is very important! They will be in a very happy mode when they get to see their logo, so this is where you can close in for an upsell - which is why I will try to call and speak to them when delivering the logos.

Ask for their website url, tell them you want to visit it to get some ideas before designing the logo. Look from there how you can improve their business. It could be SEO, header design, creating a contact form etc ect. Be creative.

Or, try to look in Fiverr and see what you can dig out - perhaps a video, or distribute flyers for them?
