$79000 in debt paid off and $40K saved thanks to the internet...

January 2008 was the start of a very special year for me....It is the year that I have reduced our debt by $79,000 PLUS saved $40,000.00!

Now we are way on track for saving up to get into our own home in 2009/2010.

But first.,.. a little background...

About 10 years ago my first husband and I separated....I was left literally carrying a lot of debt that I'd co-signed plus a young toddler and a newborn baby.

I was in dire straits and looking back on it now I realise I could have qualified for emergency housing though I didn't do it at that time...

I remember being given food stamps for our supermarket by the Salvation Army and having St Vincents de Paul help me pay our electricity bills at this time before it was cut off. I was also not getting any child support from my first husband.

I didn't have any family of my own as both my parents had passed away and I had no brothers and sisters so I had to face this one head on all alone with no-one to fall back on.

At that time I had around $50,000 in superannuation for my retirement which I was able to cash in under "financial hardship" clauses. I didn't have to do this but I did it so that I could be home with my baby and toddler for her first year and a half....the other option was returning to work.

I'd even inquired about buying an investment property at that time as I did have the superannuation funds but I was rejected as I had no "income".

During this time my car was also repossessed and I can remember only too well walking about 20 kms a week pushing a pram and with my poor toddler walking exhausted alongside me but I knew one day we would get on our feet and I was determined to do that.

And we have....

It's been a very rough ride but the tides have changed and for that we are all very grateful.

Since January 2008 we have reduced our debt to almost nil ($79,000 paid off and the remainder will be paid off in 2009)....plus we've saved $40,000.00 as a deposit towards our home.

This would NEVER have been possible without the internet and the numerous opportunities that it has given me...plus the wonderful friends that I have made.

Last year my husband and kids went looking at new homes for a laugh and we walked into one and we looked at each other and said THIS IS IT!

We did not have the kind of income level at that point of time to do anything other than dream...but dream we did...including taking photos of ourselves looking like we were actually living in the house :O) Though all the while believing that it would always stay a dream.

That house is my mission....and I hope that we will be living in it in the next few years.

I would like to motivate you to keep going....did I mention that I'd given up once before many years ago after earning nothing online?

Imagine if I hadn't gone back to it -- Look at the income I would now be missing out on (now well over $120,000 per annum)

Look at my background, look at the dire straits I was in - even Joe Vitale was homeless at one stage of his life.

You ALL have it in you to achieve whatever it is you want.

Be determined, be consistent, be persistent and have faith in yourself and the universe that it will be provided for you.

God bless and Merry Christmas to all of you.

Warmly

Colleen
x

PS: A few other things I do is give thanks EVERY SINGLE DAY for my blessings...and whenever I walk past a homeless man I give him many gold coins (sometimes twice a day)...and whenever I see the Salvation Army man on Fridays with his little box I put anything from $20s to $50s in there as a special thank you for the past and for the current...It is important to give as generously as you receive. In fact, for the universe providing me with a wonderful copywriter and friend such as Judy Kettenhofen the "Salvo man" got an extra $50 in thanks...

That is an inspirational story Colleen. Your story could not have come at a better time for me. My family and I are in a similar situation debt wise as yourself after some poor real estate decisions.

I unfortunately had to quit Firepow due to lack of money. (not a nice place to be as the main bread winner of the family!!!) Despite this, something still drives me on. Despite my lack of money I always manage to find a few dollars here and there for charity!

Your story has inspired me to keep forging ahead.

Thank you Colleen for your story.

You have well and truly "earned" your success.

I wish you and yours all the very best for Christmas.

    Hello Colleen-

Thanks for the inspirational story. I've been working on getting my $62k of credit card debt paid off. Since Feb 08, I've managed to get it down to $51k thanks to my internet business.

You provide encouragement to those of us showing that we can do it if we keep working hard.

Blog Inferno is a fabulous resource - even if you have been blogging a while!

How much of your success do you attribute to FirePow? I was using it in the early days, and loved it but we've had a serious family situation for the past year, and I had to drastically alter my business to accommodate the time spent away from my home and business.

Things are calmer now - and I am back looking at several options - FirePow being one of the top contenders.

What do you like best about it?

      Hi there Melody,

thanks for your kind words....well, since I've started using firepow there has been a fifty percent increase in my blogging income.

What do I love about firepow?

      1. you can have a wordpress blog installed with plugins installed and activated in just a minute or so.
      2. the ability to social bookmark your blog posts as soon as you've done them from right inside firepow
      3. yahoo answers - i'm addicted to that one...the ability to find the most relevant yahoo answers questions that are still looking for answers and submitting either my blog posts from Firepow straight to them or adding my own content or plr content to them
      4. being able to manage all my blogs from one control panel
      5. the ability to grab other people's content and either publish it straight away on my blog or save for future use
      6. the ability to display the best posts and have a popup appear with related posts when a visitor leaves my blog...plus heaps more that I can't think of off the top of my head...but firepow just makes blogging really fun!

Imagine if just one person reads it and takes away the motivation to really stick to it, even in the fact of adversity (I know I felt a boost). Congrats to you!

I know the feeling of what you went through and the joy of getting out of that situation finally is where I am at right now myself!

I used to work as a loan originator for a mortgage company a little over a year and a half ago, and I made really good money at it! But like so many I lost my job due to the cut backs that were made to keep business afloat.

I then found out I was pregnant and my husband suddenly became disabled. It was a really miserable time for me but it has actually turned out to be a blessing, because I threw myself into internet marketing.

I have learned so much over the last two years about creating an income from home and I aspire to make over $150,000 in 2009.

I want to be an inspiration to my three children and show especially my oldest son that even though we once had to accept food stamps for a while, we pulled through and made it to better days.

I am now making over $1200 a month online and I have recently learned ways I am implimenting now, to make way way more than that for myself and my family!

So as someone who understand, congrats and God Bless!
