I offered something for free and Gained $200 within the first week.

Some of you may know of me, others may not however that's not the point of this thread.
The point of this thread is simple, to tell you how I managed to get a new client worth about $200 to contact me with what he needed.
About a week ago, I set up a free wordpress related support group on skype. The basis of this group was to bring in people entirely new to wordpress and train them on how to use it, customize it, and the many things it can do.
Well, just today, one of the group members had contacted me about building his site for him. This alone netted me an extra $200 to my paypal as well as set myself up a little bit more in my desired niche.
What I did was simple, I formed relationships with my group members. I talked to them, found out what they needed and helped them as I could. If at one point I was unable to help them, I found out what I needed to do to help them.
Through the various webinars, the one-on-one interaction, and the group chats regarding wordpress. I have set myself up as being knowledgeable in my field and as a result of this I have formed new relationships, a new client, and possibly a life long following with some of them.
The morale of this story is this: Not everything has to be about making money. I set this group up to help people, not get work from them. But when you put someones needs first and actually build a relationship with them, the money will follow. It may be within a week in my case, it could be a month, or it could be even longer. But as long as you put your future customers needs first and help them with whatever you can, you will prosper.
A great man once said: Leadership is not being above someone, it's about being with someone. Don't try to be successful from others problems, instead, help them be successful and your success will match.
(I kind of paraphrased that and made it longer, but the point is the same lol)
It's not much, but it's at least some food for though for many. Instead of trying to squeeze a buck out of someone, help them first. It may take longer, but you will gain a relationship and lifelong customer in the end, which is far better than any one off sale(IMO...)
