I need hosting for a big website I am building. Don't know where to start!

Hello!

Thanks for stopping by on this thread. I got a question regarding hosting. I need a host that is quite cheap but still delivers on quality. I hope this is possible. Let me first tell you a bit why I need this.

2 months ago I stumbled upon a niche that has zero competition, in Google that is because there are some sites a like. The combined keywords get searched between 10 and 15 million times monthly. I've did some research on "competitors" sites and quantcast says that the main "competitor" receives 100k UVs daily, AND THAT IS WITHOUT DOING SEO!

To be honest I think I've stumbled upon a potential gold mine. So what do I need to host a website that can handle the potential traffic of 10 million UVs and a lot more page views?

Already know how to monetize sites and do niche marketing. However I am trying to make my site the mother of this niche. So basically the only concern is the hosting issue here.

Would love to see some replies. Any tips are also appreciated. Thanks!

Regards,

Steven

If the expected search volume is really that high, you would need *at least* a VPS, if not a dedicated. Don't even look into shared hosting! I have a VPS at solarvps.com myself, and the rest of my hosting is at Host9...both are excellent.

Start small with a shared plan. Once you start ranking and getting lots of traffic, then move to a VPS hosting plan.

We have an amazing offer here for warriors for both shared and VPS hosting that makes us cheaper than HostGator and we have a lot of positive reviews from other warriors.

The reason I suggest starting with a shared plan is you can get one from us for $6/month with the WSO discount. That's peanuts and will work just fine. Once you start getting several hundred/thousand visits/day from the keywords you are going after, it's very easy to upgrade to a VPS hosting plan that has the power to handle that much traffic.

    Steve:

    Here's where you start:

HostIndex.com Web Hosting Directory - Web Hosting Resource Since 1998

Put in search parameters for 'dedicated server' when searching.

Dedicated is the way to go, but it is NOT cheap...

    Otherwise, try this:

    www.seohosting(.)com by HostGator

www.VPS.net are good and they are cloud based, you can also scale it up as and when you need it on a daily basis if required.

I would recommend Virtual Private server (VPS) hosting plans & pricing at VSNL Datacenter India | Bangalore and Mumbai VPS hosting in Asia, VPS Hosting India. Start with Basic and work your way up from there based on actual visitors to your web page or site.

      HI

Why don't you start off slow and you can always upgrade when your traffic starts to increase.

You guys can't imagine how happy I am with these replies. Thanks and I will take a look at all of your suggestions. Going shared might be a good option for some trial and error and as the traffic might increase invest in a VPS. Anyway thanks again. You guys sure helped me a lot.

I've always had good service with Host Gator. Thing I like is I can pick up the phone and talk to someone who is knowledgeable and can fix problems.

Try getting a VPS, where you can easily upgrade plan when the need to size up arise. Its a good idea to start on a least amount of cost first and when you really get the hits, request the vps provider for size up. VPS size up doesnt need migrations or data transfers. It is just re-allocating you with the right cpu units, amount of guarranteed ram and bandwidth to sustain your visitors hit.

I am fairly confident that you have NOT found anything special, for a start set your keyword tool to exact match (broad match is just a fantasy). So my advice would be to start small with shared hosting, if you really have such an opportunity then you will be able to afford any upgrades later.

I have accounts all over the place, for cheap and easy I use Dreamhost but I also have accounts with Hostgator (http://bit.ly/Hostga) who are really good and Host Monster (HostMonster - Web Hosting ) are my new favorite because they have promo pricing for each new plan I set up with them, Hostgator only offer the initiial discount on the first plan you take out with them.

Ones I have had issues with are Justhost and WebHostingPad, I guess you always need to google a providers name and scam or problems, took me a month to get a refund.

    Hope this helps

I think westhost.com is great. Other VPS sites like interserver.net is great too and it's cheaper.

    Hello,

I did go with some shared hosting first. Nice tip,I am slowly building up my traffic, hitting 100 UVs a day now and I am just a month in! I aim to be an authority site.

solely giving information first and when it feels right, I will be monetizing the whole website.
