Need some advice from article marketers

Hello everyone,

I haven't been active for a while and was wanting some opinions. I want to start back article marketing but I'm not sure what works anymore. I want to start free (no investment and build from there). Should I make free blogger blogs advertising clickbank products or start writing articles for hubpages / squidoo (without using a blog).

You can start with Blogger or Squidoo to advertise Clickbank products. I read on here last week that HubPages is no longer allowing affiliate links on their pages.

Keep in mind though, that these pages aren't truly yours, and these services can choose to delete your content at any time. If you can invest at least $2 for a .info, it could be a better investment than spending time on free blogs and sites only to have your work removed without notice.

I totally agree. While they are good places to advertise your products you want to make sure you have your own site that you own so if they decide to take down your page for some reason, you will still have a presence online. Don't rely to heavily on those sites.

I definitely agree, getting your own site and building beyond it is the best way to market to a large audience and gain rank in the SERPs.

Writing and submitting your articles online is great, but you need to give your articles that extra push that's needed by promoting them effectively. You can use social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook to spread your articles around.
Bookmark your articles on bookmarking sites and send them out to your friends and colleagues.

A good attitude to have is the willingness to do more than the next person. It takes a little time to get everything in place and do this, but the results you can get will be impressive.

That is the plan of attack; submit your articles to wherever you do plus promote the heck out of them.

When people first start reading your article, you cannot afford to bore or confuse them. Your articles need to make a powerful first impression because the first paragraph, or maybe two, will be read and people will make a cold decision about the rest.
Your summary will work with some people, but not everyone reads the summary - but it should be good, nonetheless. Each article directory will have short instructions for their summary requirements, so be sure to check them out. But there is nothing wrong with stirring the imaginations and curious nature of people in the summary and closing paragraph of the article.

Be sure to avoid making people get antsy to know what your article is saying, so put some words to that affect in your intro paragraph. All of that may sound hard to do, but that is not the case at all.

Hi, Sure your own site is best but--- you said no investment.
So, You tube traffic is the best for staying on my sites the longest and converts well. If you have the software to do the videos. There are some free tools such as Animotto that brand with their label until you move to the paid version. If you can live with that for a while cool.
Then you push that traffic to your offers.

Article marketing works really well if you write for syndication.
I.E. 800 words plus, really well written ect...
Article marketing for ctr is 3-5 articles 1 sale. Not worth the time. Peanut money at best.

You could write Kindle books and pub them on Amazon they can make you about $4 to $8 each per month. 1k books say $6,000 a month. Don't freak they are not hard and you can do one an hour or so.

Those are some REAL free ways. Once again you said free, so that's what I told you about.

Having your own site does not necessitate any investment at all.

An example is a self-hosted Wordpress blog using a free domain-name and the very reliable, professional free hosting at Byethost.com. (And there are many other ways, too).

Don't let "wanting/needing to start without investment" be an excuse for not starting off with your own site.

I was unaware of the free domain names. Where can those be found.
The free hosting I knew about.
Thanks, didn't know about the free domains.

.co.cc will let you have up to 10 free ones, I think ... and there's ".tk" as well (or there was)?

Not ideal at all, but better than nothing.

A .info domain-name is only $1 from GoDaddy and is a better start, admittedly.

    No.

You need to use your own site. Not a site that Blogger, HubPages or Squidoo owns. (None of them will like you having your Clickbank affiliate links on their property, anyway. At least two of them will remove your site(s) when they notice them).

    This is really fundamental.

Article marketing isn't an "alternative" to having your own site.

You need your own website, and to post all your articles there and have them indexed first, before you submbit them anywhere else, for all the reasons explained at such length and in such detail in this thread (which will also answer many other questions that you'll have - now, or soon, or later - about article marketing ).

Don't start off by compromising over this - it's a big mistake.

Look at it this way ... when someone finds one of your articles by typing one of its keywords into a search engine, finding it in the SERP's and clicking on the link to read the article, where do you want them arriving, on your site, or on someone else's site with someone else's advertising there? It's a no-brainer, isn't it? I'm not saying that those "other people's sites" don't have any value to you - they may do, but as a way of promoting and building up your business, not theirs.

I don't think that article marketing as a means of marketing ALONE would get you far.

The reason being the recent Google changes etc..etc.. but it makes sense as a component of link building and in conjunction WITH OTHER marketing methods.

Of course, i agree with not to use free bloggers and squidoos (again, ONLY in addition) and definitely focus MOST of your efforts towards your own site. Whether the occasional hubpages or squidoo gets deleted at one point wont play a role.

Example hubpages, they JUST starting to weed out and deleting hubs like crazy again for odd reasons.

Also..as for investment..if you consider $5/month for hosting and $8/year and investment...uhm....if this is really a game breaker (????) wordpress.com is pretty good. It provides MOST what you can do with wordpress, but its hosted and doesnt cost anything. STILL...not professional IMHO. You need a SITE if you are doing IM. Period.

If you respect Squidoo rules there is no reason your pages will be deleted. Create quality lenses, and make money this way. There are many people making around $1000 - $2000 per month with their lenses. They have created many lenses, though. You need quantity and quality at the same time to make real money with your lenses.

I’m mainly using them for promoting my websites, and I see that they are really helping me. I have already created 31 lenses, and I’m creating more. After creating 50 lenses I will become a Giant Squid, what means that I’ll make more money. Squidoo is paying me for creating pages where I basically promote my work.

Here is how to create lenses in a short period of time, and how to get traffic:

    http://www.squidoo.com/passive-income-website-traffic-squidoo-beginners-guide

I have 3 websites too, and I have to pay hosting, auto-responder, etc. If I knew how to create Squidoo lenses from the beginning of my adventures online I wouldn’t spend so much money building and re-building my websites.

I have a paid Wordpress blog too, and many people are subscribing to its RSS feed everyday. However, in order to make money from a blog, you need a lot of traffic. It takes Time…

    Take care!

Get your own site. You will have more control over your content and products. You can monetize your site and have money coming to you instead of someone else.

Get your own site and start article blogging with your own domain name and start small and get writing. I Started with very little money - paid for domain and hosting started writing articles Ezine, my own blog and Articlebase. Doing a small pay as I go with PPC and going slowly not a get rich scheme.

I vote for getting your own site too for the simple reason of branding and identity.
