Not having much luck with domain names.

7 replies
I was looking for opinions on the value of a domain name;

tvspares.com

It's hit and miss with the online tools and whilst I know a bit about valuations, I have little real experience selling them.

I am really just talking about the domain, not any content that may or may not be on the site.

Your ever thankful Warrior.

    The most important thing to look for in a domain, if your intention is to sell it, is to think about how it could possibly be monetized. I've never heard of "tv spares". Why would anyone be interested in it? Rhetorical question, but unless there is meaning I'm missing, I see no real value here.

      Might be the "Atlantic" divide or my electronics background but "TV Spares" speaks to me.

      I did search for that and there are plenty of sites selling TV spares and some major companies like Currys (Partsmaster). They all seem to be UK companies so maybe that's your market.

      "Spares" used be big business 20/30 years ago but now most things are "throwaway" or to use the sexier term "whole unit replace" so in general I guess not something at it's peak.

      Like previous warriors have said, the real valuation is what someone will actually pay for it.

        Yes I do think 'spares' would be more of a european term. As Tony pointed out, it may be a dying market though. With prices of tvs coming down so much, fewer people are going to bother fixing their old tv.

    If it had traffic it would be worth something even if the term meant nothing...what the heck is a face book anyhow??

    As far as domain appraisals go...they are worthless (sort of). The ONLY appraisal that is worth anything is the guy that is writing the check! If he is willing to give you a million for it, good for you! And there may be the next face book out there that wants to be callked tv spares...but probably not.

    I'd have to agree that it probably isn't worth much. I couldn't really see a company building a business around such a domain. If it's aged, it's worth a bit more. Take a look around sites like flippa.com to see how much other random .com's sell for.

    Whilst finding domain names that have value is hard it's not impossible. Two key points i look for.

    1. Are there a lot of searches/ demand
    2. Is the traffic it will bring worth money?

    Quite simple really, if you have heard of partycasino and partypoker their affiliate network for it all is partypartners.com, I own .co.uk will it be worth anything? only time will tell. I have had an offer from somebody at $11,000 but rejected it. I wan't partypartners to become more popular in the united kingdom because then it will be worth more
