sites keep getting bumped - no logical reason...

So this is the scenario. I have a site; it ranks in the top 3, it's doing okay, it's making some sales. then suddenly BAM! its down around page 60-70. Why?!
Most recently I had a site in position #6 on page one for about a month and a half. It has less than 20 backlinks at the moment, I wasn't blasting it. In fact all I've been doing is adding more unique content to the amazon plugin posts. then I wake up and it's on page 65. This has now happened in the same fashion with at least 5 sites. WTF? Is it the dance? Cuz if so, one of these sites has been stuck in that horrible waltz for more than a month. I just don't get it.
Help!!

yeah man, I experienced the exact same thing today. Same thing, wasn't exactly blasting it with backlinks. My site isn't spammy.

The crazy thing is that I build all my sites very similarly, so I really don't understand why some get flagged and some don't.

Also, google is so harsh with their slaps. It's not like let's hit you back a spot or 2. They push you off the map.

I'm starting to see the logic in building a google proof business.....

yeah, my sites are very similar too. But now I'm wondering if google just hasn't gotten around to the others yet, making the whole venture a waste of time and money. Some are ranked and some are slapped. And what's really annoying is seeing the sh**y spammy sites ranking well on the first of second page. Like where the logic in that? What ever happened to google saying they wanted unique valuable content? bs... There is some other variable here that I"m missing...

What do you mean "google proof"?

Google might find some of the sources that you are getting your backlinks from not credible, or maybe its just one one those awkward times when they tweak the way they rate websites.

At any rate I think we will find that most of the time search engines often do things with no logical reason.

It's called the Google dance. It'll calm down after a while.

You'll find your sites drop off and then reappear a few days or even weeks later. It's the Google dance. I think this is just Google's way of testing where your site should fit in the search results. It's up to you to cement your placing.

I had one site where this was happening every week. It was ranking number 2 and then it would disappear down to page 4 or 5. I did two things. I starting building some links and I also started sending some traffic to the site.

Now it is up at number 1, also ranking nice and high for a lot of other keywords it wasn't even showing for before, and it hasn't moved since.

Good quality links and real traffic should help sort you out and stop the shuffling.

Okay, so how do you 'cement your placing'? And how are you sending traffic?

Well I purchased a link package from a well known Warrior that worked extremely well. I also did social bookmarking, rss feeds, etc, etc. Just a nice diverse building of links and then I setup a Facebook fanpage around the topic and got people visiting my site regularly via that way.

I just setup a simple blog on my domain and instead of posting cool and relevant Youtube videos on my fanpage, I would instead put the Youtube videos, etc on my blog and post the link to my blog on the fanpage every time I added new content. This can get you a nice regular flow of natural visitors over to your site.

Think about it. A whole load of incoming links are going to look a bit suspicious to Google if you have no traffic coming to your site. Why would someone link to your site if they haven't visited it first? So if you all of a sudden have 10,000 incoming links and no traffic it is going to look very unnatural.

You need traffic and links hand in hand. Besides, why wouldn't you want to be sending traffic to your site. That's the whole point, right?!

But I don't get it, cuz I don't have 10,000 links all of a sudden. I have 20 on one site and less than 50 on the other, a good number of them are from niche relevant sites.

What was the link package you got?

I feel your pain. My site made it to page 1 and was there for a week. I came home from work one night and when I checked, it was nowhere to be found. That was a little over 6 weeks ago.

    Hey Mike,

I have had sites like that it is frustrating. I used xrumer to do a blast and i didn't do the links consistently and it messed up my ranking. If i where you i would just keep adding unique content and let it settle.

I am experiencing the same thing. My Adsense revenue went from $100 per day down to $30 on my autoblogs two weeks ago and they have not recovered. A while ago Google changed their algorithm to reward sites with traffic and Panda has penalized massive content sites so my next step is to buy some cheap traffic (maybe through Fivver) and clean up any duplicate content to see if that puts me back in the money.
