Writer's Block? Here's a way to find controversial content to write about...

Controversy generates interest. The more controversial the topic / article, the more interest it's likely to generate.

Here's a good place to find controversial topics and content in just about ANY niche:

IDEA

Writing on a hotly debated and controversial topic can get your article more hits, as interested people will be more likely to share your article with their friends.

Or, you can use the site to get ideas for controversial headline ideas.

Make sure you have a Facebook and Twitter share button on your site to make it easy for readers to share your article.

One last thing - writing on a controversial subject doesn't mean you have to take sides in a particular argument or have an extreme viewpoint one way or another. You can just write from a neutral position and list the pros and cons, different arguments etc. Leave it up to the reader to make up his mind which way he / she believes, if you can. Taking a particular stance on a controversial topic like, for example, abortion, can potentially alienate you a little from some of your readers.

Or you can just be controversial yourself... Whatever floats your boat

Great site, and even better tip. I personally struggle with this myself and I KNOW the importance of writing "link bait" type of content. It is way better to get other people lining to you than doing it yourself. Good stuff, Thanks!

      Hi Nick,

Agreed. Beeing controversial in content creation may be useful.

Let's say, you are writing a controversial article about something. More people will read your article despite either they love or hate it. Be prepared to get the flood of fan and hate contributions alike.

But, you'll get more ideas and material from negative comments, because by circulation of your article they will create a buzz around you. And more and more people will want to know what's going on here?

An example can be the DaVinci Code by Dan Brown.

However, it wouldn't hurt if you know the subject enough, othervise there is a chance of beating or a lawsuit.

      Anyway, thanks for the link.

      Best,

      Sandor

    You're welcome guys.

Sandor, I agree 100%. A buzz is what you want; you want lots of people talking about your article! I dont think anybody needs to worry about lawsuits though, as long as you are sharing a legitimate and defendable opinion. If you're worried about generating too much negativity, rather write the article from a neutral stand point.

      Nick, thank you.

You know, I'm cautious bacchanalian, because I was subject to a similar case 17 years ago. So, I learned something.

        Sandor,

Well, you can't buy experience! The positive thing is you learned from your experience and you're all the better for it now.

        All the best,
        Nick

I think nowadays you are far more likely to get blog spam from ScrapeBox Kiddies than you are going to get real interested readers. But I do like the IDEA website.
