If you want to succeed...

Then don't sweat the small details!

I see a lot of advice thrown around on these forums, and a majority of the time everyone is shouting "TAKE ACTION!" Even the guy's who don't take action (discovered through their previous posts) are shouting it!

Unfortunately what is often forgotten is a little tidbit that really should be added--and that is "Don't sweat the small stuff!" What exactly do I mean?

When "taking action" on your latest idea, you will often find yourself sitting in the dark on many things. I've yet to even find a WSO that was so detailed I didn't have a lot of questions after I was finished reading it.

Regardless, when those questions add up quickly you become overwhelmed and pretty soon your doubting yourself and your ability to implement what you just read. At this point you literally have two options: Your either going to quit or your going to dive right in.

I have a pretty good idea how many people take option numero uno because I use to do just that. I was sweating the small stuff.

In my mind every question I had was a small obstacle, one that I had no idea how to get around--thus I simply gave up and moved onto something else.

It doesn't matter if you stare at yourself in the mirror and chant "TAKE ACTION" like a cult member or if you tap your head twice and dance a jig while shouting it. If you continue to sweat the small stuff you'll never take action and you'll never see the success you desperately seek.

The solution: You have to learn to weather your own self-doubting thoughts. You need to understand that your not going to know how to do EVERYTHING straight out of the gate.

As I said earlier, "don't sweat the small stuff!" Hit your obstacles head-on and find a way to get around them. Some of us blow through them, others walk around them, some even go under them! Sometimes you may not get around your obstacle. But if you give up your just defeating yourself. Learn to FAIL and then get up tomorrow and do it all over again.

"You have to find something that you love enough to be able to take risks, jump over the hurdles and break through the brick walls that are always going to be placed in front of you. If you don't have that kind of feeling for what it is you are doing, you'll stop at the first giant hurdle.” - George Lucas

I'm going to have to disagree with you...

Yes, you need to be persistent, but there comes a time when you should give something up.

A lot of things that we believe to be super important, just aren't very important at all. I'd rather give up things that I think were important, and do things that actually ARE important. :-)

In fact, I think the most successful people in the world know "when to hold 'em, and when to fold 'em." They know that turning something down and moving on when it isn't working is essential to success...

This doesn't mean you should give up. Just be aware that doing the same thing over and over will get you the same result.

I actually meant, never give in relation to IM!

I can't agree more with this post...

As weird as it sounds the moment I stopped caring whether or not I was successful, was the moment I started to explode my income.

Oddly enough, caring more/wanting it more/trying harder isn't the answer. :-)

Talking will make us idle, taking action will keep us active. Whenever there is any negative thought popup, delete and replace with good positive thoughts.

Good advice, but that is easier said than done. We must train ourselves to accept we aren't going to be awesome at everything right away. Things take time.

You don't get a college degree in 2 months! It takes FOUR years! (generally)

When I first started seriously trying to make something of my internet marketing goals I had no freaking clue what I was doing. Now, nearly three years later I have such a wealth of information.

Even then there are still hundreds if not thousands of concepts I have never even heard of or know how to implement. It's taken a long time for me to LEARN to not get flustered when I come to an obstacle I don't know how to get around.

With that said, if your a beginner, please just go for it. Dive in, learn, make mistakes. Look at this way.

You and another person are sitting on the deck of a pool. You both don't know how to swim. One of you is going to jump in and is going to be FORCED to learn how to swim.

The other is going to sit on the sidelines wondering exactly how they are going to learn how to swim so they can get into the pool... Which one are you?

Great post. I love this - it equates nicely with Seth Godin's idea of launching. Don't worry about everything being perfect...just launch.

I launched about two months ago. I'm now profitable and making money. Not a lot, but some. I'm doing the same thing over and over and building a customer base. It's all about growing more and more relationships.

This is important advice because little details used to keep me from completing big projects. For example, for a long time I couldn't figure out how to remove the navigation on my squeeze page, so I never made the squeeze page live. Even though having the nav on a squeeze page lowers conversions, I wasn't getting any simply because I didn't activate the page because of that small detail.

Great example! I hope you have taken steps to remove this obstacle from blocking any future projects you may attempt at in the future.

Remember the small details can be anything. They are anything that you perceive to be "too big of an obstacle" to continue with your project. Again, just dive in and get to working, or even better yet hire someone who can do it for you.

I believe there is a common thread that connects successful business owners and that thread is, "if you can't do it yourself, find someone who is smarter than you who can!"

Find a way and you will find success...

I'm going to take a line from Field Of Dreams "If you build it, they will come"

No seriously BloggingPro is right, sometimes we get so caught up in all the tiny details, we forget what's at stake. IM becomes tedious, you don't enjoy it and you quit, right when you're on the brink of success. Take a step back from your business and take time to refocus.
