Wordpress Plugin Advice

I'm sure I've seen at least one post about this, but I can't find any.

I just moved my blog to a new host, thought I wrote down all the plugins I used, but I can't find the list. Can anyone recommend their favorite WP plugins?

I've already got Post Teaser, Exclude Pages, and WP Stats - What I need most is a good SEO plugin, but if anyone has any other favorite plugins they use, could you list your faves?

  • All-in-one SEO Pack and Robots Meta are the ones I use for SEO, although I'm not sure if I still need Robots Meta. Akismet, of course. PageNavi is very cool if you have a lot of pages. Optin Form for opt-in's, of course. Google XML Sitemaps and Google Analyticator. And Sociable and Search and Replace.

    Ready?

    1. Akismet

Comments on your posts are the life blood of your blog. If people are commenting, you have readers, and they're adding to your image, credibility and reputation. Even the search engines sit up and take note if you're getting loads of comments, and they'll start shoving you up the rankings. Encourage comments whenever you can. But always moderate your comments. Always.

    2. All In One SEO Plugin

The dark art of Search Engine Optimization is bewildering to many, and often it's ignored by bloggers.

However, if you take your blogging seriously, you simply can't avoid SEO, and this is undoubtably the best plugin tool to help. Even if you install it for 'later', install it - and activate it - NOW! By being there, it will constantly remind you that you will need to address SEO for your blog, and this constant nagging may make it sooner rather than later. 7,000,000 users can't be wrong!

    3. CommentLuv

If your visitors are leaving comments on your posts that's brilliant. It proves you have readers in the first place, and maybe that you're writing interesting, useful or entertaining articles. However, not all you visitors will leave comments, so how can you encourage them?

CommentLuv can increase the number of comments left by an enormous amount.

    4. Google XML Sitemaps

    Google loves sitemaps.

You need to get indexed by the search engines frequently, so your blog definitely needs this plugin. Once installed, Google XML Sitemaps automatically rebuilds your sitemap after every new post and it automatically pings the search engines like Google, Ask, Yahoo and MSN, without any further work by you. I've even discovered that when I've changed or rewritten old posts, the amended infomation gets updated automatically to the search engines such as Google, MSN and Yahoo.

    5. FD Feedburner

This simple plugin redirects all other feeds on your site or blog through a single Feedburner account. This results in a quick and easy redirection of RSS subscription links, and ensures you get the complete picture on your RSS feed usage. The installation and setup is relatively simple, and the plugin kept compatible up to the latest version of WordPress.

    6. Feedburner Email Widget

The Feedburner email widget allows your readers to follow your blog by email. They simply click on the FeedBurner RSS icon to register, and any new posts you create will automatically be notified to them via their email box. If they like something they see, they can then come over to your blog to read the gory details in living colour.

    7. Sexy Bookmarks

Lets your visitors share a post or page they've enjoyed with others. Supports e-mail and posting to all the top social bookmarking sites, such as Facebook and Twitter

    8. Contact Form 7

This plug-in is excellent for managing my CONTACT ME page beautifully, and gets your email enquiries delivered successfully to my inbox every time.

    9. Subscribe To Comments Reloaded

Add this plug-in to your blog and its lets your commenters subscribe to any further comments on any of your blog posts. If your reader leaves a comment on this post with the Notify me of follow-up comments via e-mail box ticked, any future comments post will be sent to the email address automatically. The reader can easily unsubscribe.

    10. Online Backup For Wordpress

Does exactly what is says on the tin. This could be your life saver plugin. Without it, you could lose all your hard work in an instant. The plug-in provides on-demand backup of your WordPress database in case something goes wrong with your blog. I recommend having a separate GMail account, for use solely to backup your database to every day. You can schedule daily backups easily. Forget the other 9 plugins. This one could avoid you having serious problems at any time.

    A Few Others:

    11. Google Analytics for Wordpress
    12. KeywordLuv
    13. Post Teaser
    14. SEO-Tool - Keyword Density Checker
    15. Simple Facebook Like Widget
    16. What Would Seth Godin Do
    17. WordPress Database Backup

    Hope these help

Everyone has their favourites. Apart from some of the ones already listed, I like:

SEO Search Terms 2 - Adds a list of incoming search terms (with a link to your article) that people found your article by.

Better Related Content - Generates links to related articles on your site.

All depends what you are trying to accomplish. There tons of great plugins and some core plugins you should use, but the rest can be custom to what you are trying to do.

What type of site are you doing?

It's an IM strategies blog (not many of those around :rolleyes

So far I've done almost all the SEO for this site offpage - sort of an experiment on the power of article marketing. This was a foolhardy experiment.

Now I'm trying to "retrofit" my blog for onpage SEO, so looking for anything that will improve my rankings, as well as any other handy gadgets folks here would consider essential. I'm new to WP (and blogs in general), though I was a web programmer in a previous life...
