How to drive free traffic to a blog without SEO?

I've finished my Royal Wedding blog with the intent to market the variety of merchandise that amazon associates allows me to promote related to the royal wedding, while delivering the latest news related to the couple.. but even so, I'm finding myself in a bit of a trance. For instance, I don't know how to utilize SEO. I know certain techniques to get my blog out there, like posting articles related to the recent news stories, each carrying a link to read the full story on my blog.. But I don't know how effective that will be in the long run, and if it is, I don't know nearly enough article submitting sites to work with, and I'm not really sure what I should be doing when making these articles to make people "want" to visit my blog. Maybe I'm just underestimating my own content, but what I really need now is advice.

An Eternal Love Story - William and Kate, the Royal Wedding - The Wedding This is the actual site I'm working with, not sure if it has enough content or not but I'm working on bringing more to the table. Actually come to think of it, I know it doesn't have enough content. so that's something I'm gonna work on. But what I need right now is advice.

What kind of tactics should I use to drive free traffic to this blog without the use of SEO?

You can search for related blogs about Will and Kate or the Royal family and leave comments on their blogs and if they have the Com Luv plug in you will get a link back to your blog.

Ok this is a little SEO tactic. But it is also getting to know other people in your industry and creating relationships with others. Don't look at your competitors as enemies but as potential business partners.

You could set up a Face book Fan Page about the Will and Kate Too.

you could also set up Google Alerts and be notified of every blog post that contains your keywords

    Post Great Content.

Honestly that is all you really need. The first time that I started a website, I had no idea about how to do SEO, make money with the website, or even that Wordpress existed.

I just loved what I was writing about and just kept writing. If you keep posting, visitors WILL come to your site. It might be a trickle here and there (from random keywords), but they will come. And then you just need to keep posting and keep the readers interested. Try to build a small little community around your website

Maybe there's places like wedding-related forums that you can join and participate in? Then you just need to put your link in your forum signature so people will see it whenever you post something.

He's absolutely right! I had a similar experience! Utilize RSS feeds and you will quickly gain backlinks and traffic and as you add more content your rank will continue increasing naturally. Don't worry about SEO, focus on the content and getting your content out there and the SEs will take notice...

Social Bookmarks, RSS feeds, and doc sharing sites work great for me

Look for Will & Kate (Royal Family) fan sites. There probably are loads of them. Join and add your profile with a link to your own site. Use one of your best keywords as anchor text, if you can. If you can post to the site, create a sig file with anchor text linked to your site.

Also, look for Web Rings in your niche and join. Some people frown on them, but basically, by joining, your site gets added to the "ring". You put the ring code on your site so that it appears on your page. Others in the ring will also have that script on their sites. Visitors can easily scroll through member sites with similar interests simply by clicking the web ring link on each site.

      Hey jakchrist!

Howdy from Wisconsin (he he). The land of cows and cheese.

As far as increasing your site visibility WITHOUT crazy ninja SEO tactics, there are some ideas I'd suggest:
      1. Post rock-solid content that You, yourself would want to read or watch (if you're doing video).
      2. Post videos (if you're not already doing so) of YOU talking about the Royal Wedding or news updates. You'd be surprised who you can attract online with rich media and the added visual Oomph of video.
      3. If you're not crazy about jumping in front of a camera, then surf the web and collect kick-ass articles and/or news updates with KILLER HEADLINES that suck people in. (If they grab YOU'RE attention, then they'll probably grab someone else's too!) Make sure you don't plagiarize anything, but instead, simply re-share the information (is re-share a word?) with your own spin on it!
      4. Add a picture of yourself to the front of your blog with a quick introduction of what you're about and why you put the blog together. A personal touch like this helps you're visitors and followers connect with you on a human level.
      5. Most important - PRACTICE CONSISTENCY. Keep the content fresh and updated so people who visit your site will keep coming back for more!
      6. Visit and comment on related blogs and fan sites (try leading with charm and wit - better to entertain than bore - That's what I say). Make sure to include a link back to your site (make sure the link leads back to your best and most engaging content!)

I hope these ideas get your creative juices flowing.

      Take care jakchrist! Good luck!

I find that social media (facebook, twitter etc...) are good place to attract traffics. What's more, they are free!

    Cheers.

  • Not too sure how to market a niche Royal Wedding, but an interesting way I reckon would be a combo of Social Media and Video Marketing.
You probably want to connect with those who are a bit targeted to your topic.
You videos could probably be ones about the wedding itself or showcasing you talking about your opinion and such with a backlink to your blog on the description if they want to know more. But yeah, the key here is to find out where people who are interested in your topic hang out - Social Media is a huge alley in this regard.

  • Hi Jakchrist. What I would do involves:

    1. Go to Google and search keywords or keyphrases relevant to my niche...

    2. Take note of the top 20 pages for my searches...

    3. Contribute content on those top ranking pages, content aimed to provide useful info, advice, tips, techniques and strategies useful for the relevant needs and problems of my target audience, of course with links to my pages offering more beneficial content not found in my content contributions there...

    4. Talk to the other webmasters of top ranking sites and offer them joint venture deals, such as guest authoring, email ad placement or banner ad and content placement on their top ranking pages with CPC/CPM/CPV arrangements...

    That's it...

Wow great tips. I do something very similar to this for one of my animal niche sites.

It works stupidly well too. As long as you can relate to your audience you will make money.

Remember that SEO is more long term focused. What you should be doing is driving traffic to your site with more immediate or instant methods.

Methods like: videos, bookmarks, articles, blogs and other backlinking strategies.

Thanks for posting this thread, it's really help us interacting the ideas each other.

    All the ideas are perfect.

The first thing that you do is focusing in one method until you complete it, after that turn to the next method and work on them until you compete.

Don't jump from one method to the another, because in this case you will end up doing nothing and you will lose your time and effort.

Good luck for you and everyone

    -facebook
    -twitter
    -digg
    -stumbleupon
    -forums
    -comments
    - AND MANY MORE

Google isnt the only place for traffic

    (1) Write royal-wedding-related articles that you can distribute to other blogs/sites in the hope of attracting some referral-traffic.

    (2) Participate in relevant discussions on forums, and put a link to your site in your signature (if it's allowed - read the forum rules first ).

And I would say comment on some existing relevant blog posts, but unless you can contribute something really "mind blowing", most of your comments will likely be rejected since they'll be considered promotional/spammy.

Apart from that, there is - as others have said above - stuff like Facebook, StumbleUpon (though you'll first need some interesting content, of course), and other social sites.

You can try blog commenting or forum posting. But I don't think "royal wedding" niche is profitable niche for the long run. Just my 2 cents.
