How long does it take you to rank a wordpress.com blog?

I was thinking of setting up a wordpress.com site for some purpose but as I don't have much experience with the free WP, I'd like to see what fellow warriors have to say about it.

    Yeah, it's going to depend on the keyword you're trying to rank for. If you're trying to rank for "insurance quotes" it's gonna take you a while!

    If you're trying to rank for more general, long-tail keywords we can usually get our WP sites ranked bottom of the first page or top of the second within a couple of weeks...2-3 weeks usually.

    thats a very subjective question, you need to consider the niche and the keywords you're targetting plus how much time you're going to put into SEO/Promotion AND how you actually go about the later.

    Give it a go though, take action. If you're unfamiliar with SEO or Keyword Research then study this first, it aint rocket science and theres loads of free stuff from the warriors on the forum.

    It depends on many factors, including the keyword which you would like to rank for and the content which you are going to add to your blog for the sake of same. WP blogs are search engine friendly and you don't have to bother about onpage seo factors. but, still their are lots of offpage factors that you need to take care of when we talk about ranking.

    It depends, in my case it normally take around 3 day to a month depending on my marketing strategy. I normally use 2 steps: -

    1) submit your URL to the search engine. To do that, just go to Google and type "submit URL to [search engine name]".
    2) start building backlinks to the site. Use famous site like Blogger, Youtube, etc. Try not to add too much link at the beginning. 3 - 10 links per day is good.
