First site up, comments please :-)

Hi, I have my first site up, I would appreciate anyone with a couple of spare minutes to have a look and let me have your comments, good or bad.

I know its probably not the best choice of site for keywords and search traffic but I started working on this site/niche just to get my hands dirty so I could learn about hosting and wordpress etc.

I also enjoy a good poker night

I have just started learning/working on my backlinks, I have mainly social media so far, but, I have found quite a few forums that I am slowly starting to contribute to. I originally started with blog commenting but it appears most of the links are no follow, will go back to that later.

Also, could someone please check Google from the US and let me know where I sit in the rankings as I seem to fluctuate between page one (bottom) and midway on page two. I am also getting some South African results floating about from this end.

link in sig, thanks

I show you coming up #4 on the first page... but this keyword phrase only gets 720 searches a month... resulting in 24 searches a day... in which you'll get no more than 10% of those clicks or 2.4 clicks per day (10% is high - closer to 4-5%). Not the best choice (like you mentioned).

It's a nice basic site with some good content. I'd suggest you look at your monetization though.
People who are looking for this info might not be interested in 'Roulette assault'. Along with the AS you already have on there, you might look at somewhere like CJ. I ran a poker site a few years back and they offer a decent selection of promotions for tables, chips, cards etc, as well as other casino equipment. This is something that a visitor looking to hold a casino theme night is much more likely to be interested in. It might also be worth pushing books on the rules of the game, to expand on the info you've provided.

I'm also going to disagree with Duston here- yeah the Google organic traffic won't be high. However, you don't need to (and certainly shouldn't in terms of risk) get all of your traffic from Google. This site could be pushed on social networks or draw traffic from links on relevant websites, etc. G is not the be all and end all when it comes to bringing in traffic.

    Hope this helps!

Good first site Nothing to worry about considering your main keyword search volume, there's absolutely nothing stopping you from optimizing your site for as many keywords as you wish

      Good luck!

Thanks for the replies so far, I appreciate your input.

I will have a look at CJ (hadn't really thought of them before), I do agree, maybe the Roulette Assault is not really fitting with the theme.

I wanted to use Adsense on the sidebar but Google won't allow it on any gambling related content.

            Haha- that's for advertisers.

If you're promoting their products on your site, you fall under the 'publisher' category. All you require is a website.

All you need to do is apply to CJ and give your website as a reference, they quickly approve almost everyone.

But I would take down any gambling like ads like the roulette assault first, get approved, then put it back up.

It's a work in progress and of course you took action which is very important. Perhaps one of my negative takes on your site is that for someone who doesn't know how to play Poker, is that there isn't so much of a tutorial which is why you might consider some links to poker teaching products, such as on Clickbank, or other affliliate products.

I didn't like the images for links to products on Amazon, the way they are in a sigle column, and perhaps there is or are better ways of showing them? Perhaps it's because there's a lot of white space around the images as well which means I'm scrolling down the page and only looking at adverts.

You could have some video on the website to help perhaps, again to educate but try to keep the visitor on the website (maybe getting the videos to load in a new window?). I'm thinking about additional content basically.

On the whole, I applaud you for your website as you have taken action to get it online and it can only get better.

    Kind regards

    Brian
