How do you go about getting authentic testimonials?

I am getting ready to build a sales page for a new product. I would like to have a handful of really great testimonials to help sell the product. What are some of the techniques have you have tried in the past to get product testimonials before launching?

    I think if you offer a few review copies to market leaders in your niche in exchange for a testimonial, perhaps they've had offers like that before so you could always say they can use it as a give away to their list in exchange for a testimonial. That way you get a testimonial and more exposure plus the other guy/gal gets free content to give to their subscribers.

    Though I'd probably only do that if you already have an existing relationship with them and/or can trust them.

    If you know anyone that is big in your niche get ahold of them and ask them to review your product and do a write up about it. I tend to lean on one major person people can relate to in your niche and then a general user that no one knows of to cover both angles.

      You are already here. Build a WSO, and get the stuff people say in their comments and ask them if you can use it for your product. If your product is truly great, people will post nice things about it. Most of the best testimonials i have came from right here, in my WSO.

    I normally email my top clients and ask them to do this for me.

    THen I sign off on it to make it authentic.

    People in 2011 want more proof as they know how many scams are out there. So do this properly and you will be rewarded.

    To have authentic testimonials you need customers that have like your product and have used your product or service. If you don't have this, you will not have an "authentic" and honest testimonial.

    If you do have customers that have good things to say about your product you can simply ask them for a testimonial or feedback (in whatever form you wish) and then get their permission to use that information.

    I would definitely make sure that the testimonials and other information that you use on your site for whatever reasons if correct and honest. If not it will eventually be found out.

      If testimonials are not legitimate you lose all credibility right away so why anyone would use false testimonials is beyond me. I have product in production and am working with several students teaching them, and once they are successful with my system i will ask them for a testimonial, simple as that. Anything less than a legitimate testimonial is just wrong.

      I could never launch a product with fake testimonials I would feel too guilty.

    If you have a written product give away the first chapter for feedback. Actually - any product you can deliver over internet can be given to a few chosen people of high quality for feedback - works great.

    Another simple way - you do not often hear about this is to:

    get to know some quality - high standards people and trade products. Read or use and honestly give merit feedback. This is a great way to get testimonials worthy of your product.

    Get authentic customers based on the value of the sales page.

    I do WSO offers to get the initial flow of authentic customers who will hopefully enjoy it and offer an authentic testimonial as a customer of the product.

    Then I take the testimonials earned and put them on the sales page at my website.

    Why else would I offer a $197 product on the WF for $17 or $67?

    The best way I have found is to actually give your product away to a group of people and in exchange they write an honest testimonial that you can use on your website. This can be done with a WSO and usually it is pretty successful for me.
