PortalDomination Vs PHPMyDirectory for the Offline Niche?

I've been reading quite a bit about the success Warriors have been having selling their IM skills to local businesses, and quite like the idea of setting up a directory to run alongside web consulting.

I was wondering what Warriors thought of the above options, and would love to hear your thoughts on the pros and cons of both, or other ideas.

Your advice as always will be greatly appreciated!

I'm surprised you didn't get any replies to this question. Have you found anything out? I'm also looking at these two and would love to know how PHPMyDirectory compares.

PHPMyDirectory is the single best script I've ever used for a portal. The only other one that comes close is Mosets Tree with Joomla since it lets you create a very diversified website.

Can't speak about PortalDomination but it's starting templates aren't exactly screaming "professional" imho.

Is there any solid list of PortalDomination features out there?

It was actually another post of yours BlueSquares that convinced me to go with PHPMyDirectory. I think PortalDomination is great of you have a bit of spare cash, and no time, as Rick sets everything up for you. If you need a cheaper option and have the time to set up all the categories, plus the other features you want, then PHPMyDirectory is for you.

I felt that for my needs PHPMyDirectory was the go because the portal was kind of secondary to what I am offering. If your main product is the directory and you wish to get started now, then go with PortalDomination.

    Best of luck!

I cannot speak for the phpmydirectory script, but I have used 2 different applications for a portal.

Let me state right away that portals/directories are NOT my main business model, so I do not put much effort into them.

I started of with portaldomination which is a very powerful application. Once you get into it a bit, there is plenty of room for design flexibility as well as application add-ons as time goes on.

Even once Richard sets it up, you still have lots of work to do to promote it, but that is true for all portals.

Because it is not part of my business model currently, I switched to a blog format and use the Revolution City theme and added the business directory plugin. I use the revolution themes for just about everything it seems, so I am very comfortable with it and can do most anything I want to with it.

I use my directory as a freebie deal to help small businesses in my local area. I do not charge to list. This helps me build a reputation within the community, to the point where I am actually working on a project with the Mayor(I know him personally anyway) to set up a 'city' run site to help small local businesses prosper and promote themselves.

The 'good will' I am providing is driving good paying customers to me to the point where I do not have to call or advertise my services.

PHPmyDirectory is the best portal script in the Market. I am using it from two years without any problem. They have great support to answer your questions. phpmydirectory pro version has very nice feature list.

What is PortalDomination? Is there any demo for this script?

I did a lot of research and my decision was down to PHPMyDirectory or PortalDomination - as a matter of fact I was ready to purchase PHPMyDirectory, had a quote for custom template along with coupon script, until I came across Richard's PortalDomination.

Yes, you will spend a little bit more for PortalDomination than for PHPMyDirectory, but PD is a turnkey system.

PMD is a great script for it's function as strictly a directory.

PD is a directory PLUS! It's stickiness keeps people coming back for more:

      - Local News
      - Local Weather
      - What's playing at the movies
      - Lottery numbers
      - Horoscope
      - Blog / Social Media aspect
      - Classifieds

That's just some of the features for visitors.

      Businesses get:

      - 2 page business website: you can add pictures, videos, opt-in forms, and it recognizes most html tags.
      - online dynamic coupon for businesses
      - banner rotation
      - featured business listing rotation

There were just so many more features with PD that I couldn't pass it up. The other thing I've found with PD is the SEARCH Engines love it - I'm ranking on the first page of Google for many of my local searches and am getting visitors everyday.

I used the statistics from my portal to help sell one of my clients on the benefits of listing on my portal, plus optimizing his site for local searches.

The flexibility is unbelievable and the system can grow to meet your needs.

Whichever portal or directory service you choose - choose the one that works for YOU!
