Honestly, I have done the best with SEO.

I pick out keywords that get anywhere from 1000-3000 exact local searches per month and have virtually no competition in the top 10. After I rank #1 for the first keyword, I go after another, more challenging keyword. I either still use the homepage or just create a separate page with that exact keyword as the title. After you are ranking #1 for 2 keywords that combined get anywhere from 5000-10000 exact searches per month, you should see a good amount of traffic.

Very targeted, longtail keywords with small monthly search volume but very little if any competition get instant traffic. Set up 3 of these sites to combine the targeted traffic in that niche(just use free wordpress sites with your own .info domain) Then on each of those sites, use them as a window, or almost presell page to your main site that you now do not need to advertise.

Cheap, quick, targeted! Then of course......outsource to build traffic

For me: CPA all the way.

Your need to find a good niche (keyword research), build a landing page/site, keyword rich content, build as much backlinks you can and do it over and over again. Install google tracker and track you traffic and conversions.

Why CPA? Bad thing is that you will not find all niche to promote over CPA companies (you can see that different CPA companies offers to promote at Affiliate Marketing - Find the Best Affiliate Program and CPA Offers from OfferVault ) but the very good thing is that you can promote offers which don't need any purchase or sale. And that's good for beginners. So you have page about PlayStation games and you can promote offer where user just enter his email to get free game and you get like 1,5$. Not much but get 50 leads per day is nice income.

Yahoo answers is also a good tactic, search for the related keywords, turn it into a question/s then then check those questions on yahoo answers and post your answer to get traffic, but you should build a good reputation first.

That's sounds a good idea, as long as you don't end up being suspended... which is often the case...

Do you use different IDs to create a question and answer the question?

I have been into internet marketing since two years and the best of getting traffic is build up the site ranking in Google Search.This process of optimization is very complex with infinite possibilities.I prefer building links from high PR topical website sites.The links from relevant topic are weighed heavily by google.So even a relatively smaller number of such links are very very useful.Then forum and blog links.I rely on press releases as well.

Facebook would be the way to go as there are over 60 million users and growing.

I have 298 friends and a few of these friends have up to 3000 friends each. When I write a note, a message, promoting my poducts. I then tag these few friends walls and all there friends will pick up my promotion in there news feed. Thats what you call going viral.

If you are going to consider using a tactic like this, consider starting a new facebook profile.

If you were my "friend" and all your notes promoted products, Id delete you in a heartbeat.

I have been doing Article Marketing for nearly 10 years now and that is how I started. Not a penny in my pocket and I built my business up to a full time income over time. Most fail with article marketing because it requires work. When you are new you have to put in a lot of work and the thing I like best about article marketing is that if you do it properly you learn how to use SEO, you can turn your articles into videos, and you really get a good base of internet marketing under your belt.

If you understand that when you are building an income with article marketing that it takes time and that at some point you are going to want to outsource some of the writing and submitting, then you will be able to build a business that can support you very nicely. Plus having the skills of a good writer is very marketable and if you ever need to make some extra cash you can do some writing for others.

You can not go wrong with learning SEO and backlinking. The amount of work and the work you do to gain SEO ranking helps in multiple ways to build your site.

1. Traffic from SEO
2. Traffic from referring sites you put your links on
3. Traffic from repeat vistors who visited your sites before (direct traffic)

Pretty sure that covers the only 3 ways I know of the core to getting traffic to any site.

Can you elaborate on this? If you only had 3x hours to spend every day, how would you spend it? Although I understand that 2. refers to blog commenting, can you be more specific on the 1st point.

The best method for me is ranking high on search engines all the rest of the traffic comes as a result of my link building.

If you are building a niche site then SEO is the only way to go

If you are building an authority domain then you will want to hang out in related forums, promote on facebook and twitter, build an email list, comment on related blogs and answer on yahoo answers because you will be providing value with your posts and when people click through to your blog they will find great content.

Then you get the wind at your back because you will be building links, and when people come to your blog they will link back by liking it on twitter or facebook and some will link to your site from theirs.

SEO is my main source of traffic, then if I want quick traffic I send out a link to my thousands of twitter followers, facebook fanpage with over 11,000 fans, digg followers, etc.

Build up followers in different social sites like those, and then you will have your own traffic network, similar to having a list. Use your rss feeds to feed your followers using dlvr.it and ping.fm

I also get traffic from articles, youtube, forums, etc. but not nearly as much as from SEO. Tried PPC but lost money with it. Craigslist, Backpage and other free classified sites are also good and I used them to make my first paycheck online. I still use them today with good results.
