Big G SERPs altered by OS and Browser?

I know that on page and off page optimization as well as competition analysis are key to getting ranked but I found something out that made me and a friend really curious about what is going on with the SERPS.

I had recently posted a review for a warriors product Online Fitness Empire for the keyword online fitness empire review and let it be on my wp site after submitting the post with proper keywords, title, description, etc using 2 seo plugins.

I went to check on the rankings and found my site at 10 of 14.4 Mil(Not bad and not to toot my own horn) but now enter in the confusing part. I know that the speed of which a page loads may also play a factor in pages being ranked, but why when on the same net connection and even in the same area of the state would the page be all over the SERPS?

I checked in and found it on 10 using my macbook. I tried it on the Imac and found that between firefox and safari I placed between 9 and 10, this friend of mine checked and found me at #1 using a distro of linux!. To verify he had another friend outside of the net connection we were sharing check and he said I am on page 2 using Win XP.

So it seems like though we should all be coming from the same data center. Meaning that the OS that is being run as well as the browser, content, on page and off page optimization as well as page load times may be all factors in the Big G algorithm?

If anyone can clarify that would be appreciated.

it definitely makes a difference depending on each users browser preferences a little bit I think. And things jump around a little anyways.

I'd recommend using scroogle.org to check your rankings as it will give you a fairly accurate assessment of where you sit realistically

Google's search personalization is likely to be influencing the results, where a subject you have shown prior interest in may get ranked higher, particularly when you log in under different google accounts.
Supposedly an SEO guy could hedge his results by sneaking into the boss's office and doing a bunch of searches that create a personal history skewing future search ranking for an seo project, on that particular computer,

Well, first, if I may (politely) stop you from tooting that horn just a little bit. The keyword "online fitness empire review" does have 12.7 million broad results, yes, or 14.4 where you are. But, that only means that there are web pages on the internet somehow related to online, fitness, empire, and review, individually... all very common words, of course.

You're only looking at 1870 results in quotes, only 36 with allintitle, and only 1080 with allinanchor. My point being, that is far from being a competitive keyword, and it's one of those keywords which would land you on the first page just by having good on-page optimization (as it seems to have done for you), and will easily get you #1 with barely a handful of back links. The competition on the first page is non-existent as well, with the top result only showing 1 backlink in Yahoo Site explorer (from their own site).

That being said, as for the rest, the bottom line is that results always vary in the SERPS, for each individual person & device, more and more so recently with Google being all about personalized results and what not. Also, just because you are logged out of your account, does not mean that Google is not personalizing your results. G knows and tracks more than people realize.

What you see on one device is not the same as what you will see on another device. So when I'm ranked #1 for any given keyword, I more realistically assume that I'm ranked top 3 for that keyword, maybe even top 5, as not every single searcher is going to see me listed as #1, but I'm happy with top 3 any day.

In your case, you probably just need to throw a few backlinks at it and you'll easily be #1. Other than that, I wouldn't worry too much about getting your hands on different devices and OS's to check your rankings. Scroogle.org is more than sufficient to get a realistic picture of how you're ranking.

    Hope that makes sense.
