Question about wordpress

Hey guys, I just signed up for a blog at wordpress.com. This is the first time I've ever used wordpress, and would like to know what the difference between wordpress.com and wordpress.org is?

I bought my own domain name from godaddy, and was also wondering how I get hosting on wordpress

On wordpress.COM you don't own the blog: they allowed you to create one for free and they will dlete it in the next second as you start using it for commercial purposes. Read the TOS - nobody told you that ever?

From wordpress.ORG you download the (free, open source) script to be installed on your own domain and your own hosting.

You do NOT get hosting on WP. Buy a hosting package at a reputable hosting company; set the DNS records for your domain at GD to point to your hosting; install WP (btw, most hosts have a simple method in their admin panel to install the script)... and start blogging.

Thanks very much. I am new to all of this. I used blogger before, and I've heard that wordpress is a bit more difficult but it has many more advantages, so I decided I would try it out.

What is a good, low cost hosting package/site to use?

I see that a lot of people use hostgator. Is it any good?

Yes ... you need self-hosted Wordpress, clearly not wordpress.com (which is for "hobby bloggers" and absolutely nothing commercial/monetised allowed).

I use HostGator, as many Warriors do. It will be more than adequate for your purposes, and their customer support's good.

You can actually host your own wordpress blogs on free hosting at byethost.com (it's professional, reliable and well-established), but you need to know how to install it there, which isn't as easy (at HostGator it's so easy that even I can do it, and let me tell you, that's saying something).

    wordpress.com:
the content on wordpress.com is hosted at wordpress' server and they have complete control of it which means they have rights to delete your blog

    wordpress.org:
the content is hosted at your own server, so there's no risk of your blog being deleted

    Hello!

I second what has been said about using Hostgator to host your wordpress site. If you go with Hostgator, there is a button called Fantastico which will install wordpress for you in 5 seconds. I have actually created a step-by-step guide that I could pm to you if you are interested.

In addition to that, when you use the wordpress.com, in your url, the wordpress.com is included, so it will appear something like these: yourniche.wordpress.com or yourkeyword.wordpress.com.

I used wordpress.com as one of my minisites for my linkwheel.

I suggest, go to youtube and search for videos about how to install wordpress manually or how to install wordpress via fantastico.
