Some Warriors May Get Toasted If...

they don't follow the sig-file rules. I'm not refering to the Twitter links
which I think most of us feel are pretty harmless.

I mean the affiliate re-directs.

We want to see what YOU are doing with marketing in your sig-line,
not a "me-too" affiliate page. You can make a simple site to build
your list even and put a banner in it for your favorite affiliate program if
you want to.

Here's the relevant part of the rules:

"(5) No Affiliate Links Allowed - Promote Your Own Domain/s Only. It's either this or we have to cut out sig files altogether which we do not want to do.

(6) Anyone Caught Promoting The Same Site/Offer Will Be Deleted. Program owners are telling their members to come here and make posts to promote their offer in their sig files. This has caused tons of useless messages to be posted and it is clogging up the forum. Anyone caught doing this will have to be removed. This is not an ad forum - it is a discussion forum.

Edit: We have no problem with someone pointing to their WSO within their sig.

Edit: Due to certain people trying to find a loophole I needed to add yet another edit. Please do not try to get around these rules by getting your own domain name and simply redirecting it to an affiliate program. You Will Be Removed From Here When Caught.

If you want to promote an affiliate program do it on your own domain. Your own web site. Not a "pre-made" web site. Your own web site, a real one. Then put THAT web site in your sig file.

A simple way to stay within this rule is this: Promote Your Own Real Web Site And Do Not Listen To Anyone Who Tells You To Come Here Just To Promote A Site They Created For You.

There's nothing in the rules about making exceptions if "most of us" feel that something is "pretty harmless".

Theres' an icon under your avatar (in the "social networking" box) that you can link up to your twitter account by listing it in your profile. Isn't that good enough?

Lance, Twitter doesn't promote anything but you. There is no product
involved. Even former mods like John Taylor have said that there is nothing
wrong with this if you go by the "spirit" of the rule.

However, if Allen feels differently then I am sure at some point in time he
will say, "No more Twitter links"

I personally see nothing wrong with them as again, you're not being
directed in any way to a link that is promoting any kind of a product.

Steven, I don't discount the "spirit of the rule" argument.

But the "Follow me on Twitter" sig files give me visions of a lonely puppy begging to be stroked.

Again, why can't people just trust that those who want to follow them will find the little blue t in the "social networking" box under their avatar? Surely anybody that would want to follow you and knows how twitter works is going to be smart enough to know what the little blue t does.

I don't spend too much time concerning myself with this issue (or non-issue). Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents out there since the OP brought it up.
