Any good resource on buying websites ?

Hi,
I want to buy a competitor's website.
These guys do 50 times my traffic but they make 1/4th of the money.

I want to buy it as cheaply as I can and get my money back as fast as possible.
I had heard that Ed Dale was a specialist but the only product of his that I can find is a $2,500 bundle with Stompernet called "dominiche".

What I'm looking for is a less-than-$100 how-to ebook.

Any ideas ?

Tony
PS : I'm not interested in domain-flipping or reselling, I just want advice on how to approach these guys, get as little as I can from my pocket (I might have to borrow from the bank) and turn a big profit very fast from their traffic.

Have you considered approaching them with more of a win-win offer?

Could they send their traffic to you as well as themselves eg with a mailing list etc?

Well, they are not seasoned marketers, are not interested in JVs, and buying ads from them is a pain.

I just want to buy this website.
It's a pretty big one, and it's been evaluated at $100,000 (they don't know that part).

I'm just looking for a book on how to approach them, make the proposal, and buy the site with no money down.

I know of an essential softcover book worth looking into called

"Getting to Yes" By Roger Fisher and William Ury.

Available at Amazon, or the audiobook at Audible.com and Itunes.

Covers many types of negotiating techniques, and one of the best around.

Agreed, Max's stuff is the best. If your getting any website flipping training that is the product you should buy!

      Kind Regards

    No resources required.

    Just do it.

@ Meanna : thanks, I'm buying it right now.

@ Eric : I'm looking for something more specific to Web real estate, but I'll look into this book.

    @ JasonKing :
    No resources required.

    Just do it.
Dude, that's a pretty useless answer.
I was not going to even answer you, but I hope the following will help you not post these kind of replies :
    I'm looking at a six-figure deal.
If I "just do it", my business and personal funds are at stake. If I blow the deal, I will probably not get a chance to do it later. And if I pay too much or too much upfront, I'm risking my business.

So "just do it" my friend, is not the best piece of advice one can get.

  • My only real advice is to find out "why is this website being sold".

I do a lot of site selling, but I never buy. To date, 100% of the times I've been interested in a site, I've found a glaring reason that the site was being sold.

However, I've only looked at sites in roughly the $30-70,000 range.

If you are looking at some more serious investments, than my advice still holds true, but at that level I would look more into the future and stability of the website.

Not a lot of people (here anyway) are operating at the same level you are, so you may have to look elsewhere!

Money isn't real, George. It doesn't matter. It only seems like it does.

      Actually it's not "being sold".

They are happy with the way they are.
I want to approach them and make an offer.

@Meanna Blog : If I can actually buy this website thanks to the advice in the book, I'll let you pick one IM product that you want, whatever it is - and I'll buy and ship it to you. Sounds fair ?
