5% Amazon Payout vs. 50% Other Provider-Which one?

Here's my dilemma and I'm sure many others too. I can promote the exact same product via Amazon that I can with another provider who pays out at 50% vs. Amazon at 5%. The reason this other company pays at 50% (according to them) is that 80% of their sales occur via the phone and I do not get credit for phone sales even if they get there via my link.

Here's the catch: These are big priced items (some >$500) and I've had 3 total sales over 5 months. Its in a very competitive niche and my traffic is less than desireable but even with the 3 sales I've netted ~$700.

I am considering giving Amazon a try and seeing what the results are for a couple of months. Plus, I'm not too keen on the customer service I get from my current affiliate manager. Anyone else have this same dilemma and if so, let me know what you ended up doing?

  • Big difference between 5% and 50%! The only way you can say which will work best is to test it - you might get a great conversion rate at Amazon that makes it worth switching. Then again, you might not.

I rarely choose Amazon over a higher payout - even with a better conversion rate, Amazon just can't compete sometimes.
  • Amazon often gets a bad rap because of the low payout...

But if you can get the volume up you can get over 8%...

Anyways, I always choose Amazon because they are a conversion machine...

You get someone to Amazon and chances are they will buy something and probably something else, lol...

    I vote Amazon

Amazon always offers the chance of a repeat purchase..Thats why I stick with them!
  • Amazon all the way, I have tried clickbank and its too hard amazon converts like wildfire! and commission is generated form all products bought not just the one you refer from.

    • Thanks for the replies. Anyone ever split test between amazon and alternative links? There s a bunch of similar products so I may be able to pull it off.
    • Why not publish some Amazon reviews on the same item or items separately from what you are doing now?

Or set up a separate blog to promote the products on Amazon. That way you could make a commission from both sources. It sounds like you are promoting a hot product. Just a thought.
