To all you Flippa users,

I've built a few websites over the past year and I'm looking to set them up for sale on Flippa. The topic that I am curious about is regarding the technical knowledge that most Flippa buyers have.

Most of the websites I build are more than just static pages and usually involve a backend database (MySQL). I don't use Wordpress. So... if I were to sell one of my websites I would have to pass the buyer the database structure for them to install on their own server (relatively simple).

My question is, how many buyers on Flippa would be willing to purchase one of my websites if they had to perform some basic tasks with SQL (basically just installing the structure to their own database)?

Hi - I think you'd be better building them on Wordpress....regards Allen

That would depend on their own technical knowledge. It might turn off some buyers who are new to owning a website and don't know what Sql is, but there are others who will be familiar with it and won't mind using it when installing the website on their host.

Of course, you can always offer to do the Sql install and tweaks FOR them at no charge as a BIN bonus....and probably get more bidders from both newbies and experienced website owners that way.

I think if you sell the sites with instructions for installation that are clear that should be sufficient.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

One recommendation I would have would be to point them to a hosting company that will manually transfer the sites files for them. Ex. hostgator. For someone that is not very familiar, this might make them more comfortable and more likely to bid.

I have sold alot of sites on Flippa.
Some people like you to transfer whereas some are able to transfer themselfs.
I charge a fee to transfer the sites and then I pass the work onto a very reliable freelancer who I discovered on Fiverr. He always gets the job done within 24 hours and is super fast and professional. Here is the link to his gig http://www.fiverr.com/users/cyberjam...hosting-server

I also use wordpress for most of the sites I sell and he has no problem completeing the transfers

My guess is very few unless your sit ehas some real profit potential. It's really situational but it's always better to provide free installation as a motive to transfer. This way you can target more market but I mean it's up to you after all

    All good suggestions.

I guess I don't see why I couldn't just offer a free install. After that it would be seamless I would expect.

Well, I'm sure most buyers would probably be a little hesitant to tread new waters but if it's like you said, an easy install and implementation and you offer them guidance throughout, I don't see why there would be any problem. At least, I don't think it would be a deal breaker.

From my experience, the majority of Flippa buyers are newbies with NO technical knowledge. I have set up the website for the buyers in the majority of the cases. They give me their cpanel login and I install the site. That way, I know there's not going to be any problems with the site.

I just recently bought a website on flippa because everything was already setup and ready to go. I would like to think a lot of the buyers on flippa are like myself, people who dont know anything about web design or SQL but are just looking for the simpliest way to get started online trying to make money. If it was me trying to buy your website, I would be a little put off if I had to preform technical tasks since I dont know anything. Then again maybe not everyone is a total noob like me. just my 2 cents... good luck

One suggestion. the person I bought the website from had stated in the listing that If I bought at the BIN price I had one year of support from him. As a total noob I bug him right now about the most stupid things like how to change a graphic, how to installa dsense code, how to change the theme. Im sure I am bugging the hell out of him. But his promise of 1 year support was one of the main deciding factors for me to purchase the site. Perhaps you can offer something like that to attract buyers

It almost certainly be simpler to get them up and running than have them come back. On a tech level why would they need to run the SQL statements? Can't you just do a database dump and restore on their servers? Most site sales there expect existing customer bases unless you explicitly say you're not providing (which then makes the site of little value)
