As a new blogger im curious to know how many articles people are writing and submitting for there blogs per day. I ask this because it took me near 6 hours to write a 500 word article today, but that may of been because it was my first attempt at writing a unique article.

So how many do you write?

I do only PPC and media buys now, but when I got started I used article marketing.

I used to create just 1 article a day. For me, the most important thing wasn't to create many articles, but target the right keywords. I only could make article marketing works for me when I realized that I should get traffic from the search engines.

Depending on the niche, I can pump out a solid 500-1000 word article in about a half hour. That said, I usually only write (for my blog) two or three a week.

There was a point, however, before I learned that I could submit articles to multiple directories, that I was writing over 15 articles a day. That sucked.

You're putting way too much thought into writing then. Even with research, shouldn't take more than an hour to write 500 words. Think more conversationally and less grammatically and just write without agonizing over every word. You can always go back and shore it up. If you have the means, get a program that can translate your speech to text and have a conversation on the topic. After that, go back and edit.

I can usually write about 10 500 word articles a day.

For article marketing you just need to write one or two a day and submit to multiple directories.

1 each week or every 4 days will be good enough for a blog. Write as much as you can since you could plan future blog posts. Readers want fresh content so continuity is the key.

You could easily write a 500 word article in 30 mins. How? Search for the dragon naturally speaking software. It converts your spoken text into words. Just come up with as much information as possible and try to rewrite it properly once you haven't got any inspiration left. Another thing you could do with the software is to rewrite existing articles quickly ;-)

I try to write one article per day (but don't manage it ). Probably 25 per month.

You don't need a large number of articles to make a good living from article marketing. What you need is well-written articles that get in front of well-targeted traffic.

You need a good quality article every few days to really do well. You need to make sure you get keywords in your Title as well as your paragraphs and than you will shoot up the google list. If you combine that with blogging and even doing some tweeting you will do real well.

Exactly - quality over quantity every time. Having said that, we are talking about "Article Marketing", NOT "Article Directory Marketing"; two distinctly separate marketing methods.

If it's taking you awhile, don't feel bad. Everyone goes at their own speed. Personally, I'd much rather read your 6-hour article than something you tried to churn out in 30 minutes just because people say you *should* be able to write that quickly. That being said, though, you will get more comfortable with this writing style as you move forward.

When it comes to your blog, the key is consistency. If your loyal readers come to expect a new post everyday (or every 3 days, or every week), you need to deliver. The last thing you want to do is disappoint them by not having anything new, or making them think that you've abandoned your blog. If you're nervous about the writing, start slowly (like posting something every few days or once a week). You can always start publishing stuff more frequently as you get more comfortable.

      Hi Nicole,

I fully agree. Only a few practical ideas I'd like to add.

      - When you write in your pace (and don't need to write against time), you've chance to experiement and find your own 'voice'. Your readers will appreciate that you write to people and not machines.

      - Knowledge reduces your writing time. Devote as much time to read as your time allows. If you become familiar with a topic, then it is less time devoted to research. Writing about familiar topic your thoughts come more fluently.

      - If your slow typing skill is the problem, then practice will increase the speed, so write a lot. The more you type, the more familiar you'll become with the computer keyboard and the position of the keys. Try to write not having to look at where the keyboard keys are. Don't worry about errors, correct later. You'll notice the increasing of your writing speed.

      - Ask someone else to dictate to you, so can you write as fast as you possibly can. Again, write first, correct later.

      - Increase your typing skill with fun, play the QWERTY Warriors Game. By defending yourself against your opponents, you need to type words fast. You can find it here: QWERTY Warriors and Other Free Internet Games @ CrazyMonkeyGames.com (No aff)

But be careful, it may be addictive for you.

      Many successes,

      Sandor

I guess that depends on the niche of your blog and the desired length of your article. I usually write one a day but short article at 100 to 200 words.

    All the best.

6 hours?!?!?! I write an article that long in 30 to 60 minutes, but I can't write more than 3 to 4 hours in one day. If I try, I feel like my brain will explode.

I hope you improve your writing speed drastically with practice. Otherwise you might wanna consider outsourcing this.

Good for you! Is it safe to assume that you're also thinking along the lines of someday creating your own products?

Frankly, I'd forget about setting a quota and focus on getting as much done within a set time limit.

Time of day has a lot to do with productivity. So does self-discipline - this is time you set aside for writing, not cleaning up your work area waiting for Divine inspiration, or reading your e-mail, browsing, etc. So write!

It always helps if your keywords are something you're passionate about, or at least mildly interested in beyond the monetizing. It's so much easier to develop a rhythm and come up with endless relevant topics to keep you going and keep your audience coming back for more.

Be flexible with your scheduling, and allow time for family and friends, and the occasional emergency won't completely wreck your life if/when it comes along.

I like to outline, and plan in series. I also do a lot of rewriting, corporate training, public speaking, etc., so the 3-4 hours a day I spend actually writing might take another 4-5 hours preparing for it.

Unfortunately, our audiences really couldn't care less how much blood, sweat, and tears we pour into it, they're only going to judge us by the final product. Obviously, if your writing sucks, you'll lose more than audience, you'll lose a stream of income that could last for years and decades from every last one of them. At the very least, get into the habit of spellchecking before you post your articles to the Internet. (I like to read it out loud, too, before hitting the send button.)

    Hope that helps.

When I started I tried to get 3-5 articles a day posted on my blogs. I used to work in news and am used to researching and writing fast. Now I do it for others and write much more. But I still think posting at least 3-5 GOOD articles a day is the best way to build authority sites.

I've found that one article a day works great for me. Like others are saying 6 hours is way too long for one article. If its taking you that long then maybe you should be writing about something that excites you more and you have enough experience with to write easily about it.

Also I hope you're bookmarking your articles at social bookmarking sites. You can use socialmarker.com or the onlywire plugin to do that. Writing your article and submitting it to article directory is also another great way to maximize your writing efforts.

It really depends on what niche your in. I've heard for the make money niche, you have to pump out around 20 articles a day if you want to make some good sales.

For those less competitive niches, I would say just about like maybe 2-3 articles per day. I wrote about 2 articles per day for this Tinnitus Miracle Product that wasn't too competitive and the keywords were pretty easy to rank for as well.

Actually there is no limit on how many articles you can submit per day, the many the better, but if you do it on your own I think you can only produce 2 to 3 articles a day, its not bad, that seems helpful then.

My full-time staff writers do almost all of my writing in a few dozen niches. They generally pump out about 2 or 3, with gusts up to sometimes 4 articles in any given week. It doesn't really take many articles at all to beat out the competition in the hottest and most lucrative markets. The most important part is to get them read by real live targeted eyeballs. Remember, people make purchases, not search engines.

If I'm working on my own sites or niches I know very well takes no time at all. It literally just takes the time to type and proofread real quick.

Writing for IM clients...I can write maybe 6,7 a day, tops. And that's because I'm researching their topic and not just slapping a bunch of filler together.

You get quicker as you do it more often, that's what I hear.

once upon a time, I wrote each article by myself. no matter how I try, I can only write so many each day. maybe it is simply because English is not my first language.

I'm going for 1 a day and have done so successfully for awhile now. In niches I know(which I now aim to stay focused on) I can write easily 400-600 or more words in less than hour, less than half an hour if I really get typing.

Im trying to find new uses for the articles though since Ezine took a big hit recently and using them for backlinks feels like a bit of a throwaway. My eyes are on Kindle now, combine a few of them into a cohesive book and let it ride.

It is going to be hard for you to get the answer you are after from this question. When I first started it took me nearly an hour to write 1,000 words, about two articles then. Now I can do nearly 3,500 words in an hour and that is unique.

The more you research your niche and the more you write the faster you will get. If you do not know how to type properly I do recommend getting a free or cheap online typing course because it will help you with your overall speed.

I am more concerned about quality rather than quantity. One quality article is enough to attract hoards of traffic. On the other hand, I know quite a few marketers that submit several articles per day, but have very pale results as their articles are poorly crafted.
Every time I write an article on a topic I know a few things about, it takes me anything from 20 to 35 minutes. If it takes you so many hours to write a 500 words article, you should either invest in an article marketing course or start outsourcing this task.
I wish you all the best!

Instead of trying to write a unique article, you should just write freely, say what you want to say and go back and make edits. It is a lot easier to let your ideas flow and edit later, than edit as you are writing (typing) them down. This will allow you to definitely write more articles in less amount of time.

Well the original Job advert was a message sent to someone, asking for 40 articles between a 'strong team' and the advert said it was for 5 hours a week for 1-2 weeks so I thought it would be easy ish.

And in reply to someone elses question about how much each, since I am writing all 40 myself, thats $1.88 each

For how much per article? $4? $5?

I looked at doing this but the money was so poor, it's what led me to creating content for myself, rather than for an outsourcer.

I set myself a limit of investing $100 and seeing where that goes. That is for hosting, domain names, training materials, etc. but if you have time and can research through sites like this (which, Duh! I found out about later rather than earlier!) you could get 5 web sites hosted, with domain-names for about $2/mo each. So for 5 websites, $40 for domains, $19/quarter for hosting for all 5. The 40 articles you wrote under a tight deadline for low pay would be a great asset to your online marketing efforts, rather than doing the same for someone else.

I don't write blogs, but I write a lot. Probably 2-3 articles or white papers a day with maybe 10 or so detailed letters. I also do creative writing and can produce 5000+ words on a productive day.

An average adult with a modicum of intelligence should be able to knock out 1000 words an hour, even if they are a poor typist.

I suspect you were either writing about something you didn't know very well or were trying for perfection.

In my experience, rip it out - get as much down on screen as fast as possible, then correct. Almost stream of consciousness... just let it flow.

If you are still finding that slow, there is no easy answer - practice is a great tool for gaining speed in writing - the more you do it, the quicker it gets.

Strangely enough, before I started internet marketing I logged everything in writing, and spent countless hours writing. Ever since I began the IM adventure, my writing time has been reduced by 70-80%.

I believe it's largely impart to the fact that in order to successfully balance all the pieces involved (I.e. keyword research, buying domains, writing code/links, advertising, designing and layout, images...etc..) I have less time to write.

However, I can crank out a 1000 word article in 60-90 minutes and optimize it to multiple keywords.

What amazes me still is when I rank high on keywords that I wasn't even targeting

All in all, I happen to love writing, but I believe it's important to spread out the time learning design, code, domaining, keyword research...otherwise I would prob be cranking out 4-5 niche articles/reviews per day easy.

I can only hope to learn graphics, design, css, and php as natural as writing has been for me. Honestly, I suck at design, my sites are nowhere near my vision. But, I write probably 3 articles a week currently. Usually, I aim for 750-1000 words and 2.5 -3% keywords sprinkled throughout for SEO.

PS- I find that writing online doesn't pay very well...unless you do it for yourself, target keywords, and apply quality SEO practices. However, once you apply proper marketing strategies, I sincerely believe 6-7 figures is acheievable with a well written and properly marketed eBook ...i'll let you know when I fig out how to make that happen

My blog is updated with one article per day. What were you writing about that it took you 6 hours to get to 500 words? That would be just 83 words per hour. For a point of reference, it took me two minutes to write this response: 47 Words.

I'm the slowest writer known to mankind. Yes, It could take me hours to write a single 300 word article. Because of this I try to make my articles as compelling, informative, and useful to the reader as I can. It's because I really care about the topic that I tend to write slower and over and over again. ( don't ask me how I got through college)
I know my articles are good but I can only produce so much of it. I have to accept that fact that writing articles fast and in volume isn't my strong suit. I also understand my best articles aren't necessarily keyword rich. Therefore, I try to outsource article writing as much as I can. I do separate my good articles from the outsourced one for the readers looking for more quality information though.
If you are writing because you are passionate about something, I'd say keep writing.
If you are writing to generate income, I'd say to outsource it to someone who can write keyword rich articles in volume fast.
If you are writing because you are passionate and to generate income, I'd you find a happy middle ground.
    cheers.

      Makes no sense I'm afraid.

Usually if you are passionate about a subject then the writing comes out so quickly you barely have time to get the words out....that's passion..."in the zone" writing.

If it's taking longer than that then it is unlikely to contain any passion at
      all!!

Respectfully, I have to disagree that passion equal faster writing speed. One could be "in the zone" but end up with a patch of bad articles. I also think that passion does not cure "writer's block" nor eliminates the need for proper research. It depends on the personality, skill and what one thinks is "good enough". Also some people tend to put in a lot of psychological effort(stressful and time consuming) before committing to paper or keyboard. Also some tend to constantly rewrite articles to improve it. Whether these behaviors are actually required to produce a solid article again depends on the person and their standards.

I like quality articles, because there are just so many sub-par articles that are keyword rich(profitable) but doesn't contain any actual info. I have great respect for people who can crank out high quality articles in 15 minutes or less start to finish. But not being one of those people, I have to adapt.

Outsourcing is not a bad option. Eventually, I believe most people head towards outsourcing articles because it frees up so much time for better use. You are the editor in chief so no article below your standard will ever reach your website. Leveraging is something we have to do at some time, so getting started early could be a great benefit.

If you are like myself, I would recommend you try recording your thoughts instead of writing them. Most windows(after vista) have voice recognition software already included. I just speak into the mic and most of my words make it into notepad. It's much faster than my own typing and helps me organize my thoughts better.(cut and paste) It might also help you too, so give it try.
Also, you might try changing your writing style a bit. Some of my friends write blog posts as if it is their PhD thesis. if that is the case, why not try to write in a more casual tone? I think those kind of articles sound more genuine anyway.

Looks like many people in this forum is rooting for you.

I would try to write one post in my blog and one guest post per day.

If you do not have any ideas on what to write, you can either read ebooks, articles, books or videos to create your own title and start from there.

You should try to write more in 6 hours..im not the fastest writer myself but when i choose to write articles that im going to publish i usually write about something i know inside out like programming or website design or diagnosing laptop problems etc.. try to write about stuff u know inside out, you'll write much faster. and you can write articles you want to write about, but take longer writing, on the side and publish them whenever you're done. just an idea

Don't worry about how long it is taking you - the more you write the less time it will take. You were probably overthinking it, but you will learn to relax and just let the words flow.

While I write an article or two a week for marketing purposes, I'm writing blog posts several times a day for various sites. It does get easier over time.

  • If it takes your 6hrs to write one article then you need to focus on outsourcing your article writing that is if you want to do internet marketing as a business. But to answer your question, usually about 1 a day! The key is quality and consistent.

The amount of article writing I do depends on the topic and if I am motivated. Some days I can write 5 articles, other days I am lucky if I can manage one.

If you are just starting out, the most important thing is that you are enjoying the writing and not getting too stressed out about it.

    Good luck

    Don't sweat it,

When I started I was really slow and agonized over it thinking I should do more. But naturally I improved with time and got quicker as we all do.

My criteria for my blog is to try to write the best I can when I have something to say and it takes no time at all. Writing articles for submission still takes a while compared to some I read about yet I am happy with the quality and at the end of the day that is karma:-)

I sub some out but my short answer is not enough. I have such a profound respect for writers since getting into the industry. I also am kicking myself for not paying attention to my COM classes in high school and college. I watch most of the article people come here and make it seem so so easy, and I am sure it is for many of them. For me it's like trying to put together a giant lego death star with no instructions.

So in short, 1. If I am lucky I get 1 article a day.

I like to write 1 article per day. But, if the article needs a video, it might take 2 - 3 days to film the video, edit, and then upload to youtube.

Do I have to drive, hike or boat to the video location, or where I want some special pictures?

The article I posted on tuesday took about 5 days to make - 3 days of filming video on friday, saturday and sunday; 3 days of writing and proof reading - sunday, monday and tuesday.

The article I posted on wednesday took about 2 hours to write, but it reused a video and pictures from a previous article.

I don't know what works for others when they sit down to write, but I find if I pick a subject and just let it fly, the results are generally fluidous and maintain good context and syntax.

If I try to write anything to perfection, and over-think it... the writing suffers and the time it takes editing becomes agonizing!

This is not to say you should sacrifice quality content by no means. Just don't nit-pic and scrutanize every word, or you will drive yourself mad and both you and the writing will suffer.

YOu put so much effort on writting article, just make sure you submit to a lot of top articles directory, and convert it to video and submit to all video site.

You can consider outsource as it is quite reasonable cost at this time, so that you can fully focus on the marketing site.

I used to write between 2-3 articles of about 500+ words daily for a horror movie review blog. It's much easier to write when you have a passion for the subject hence pumping out articles quickly is no problem. I don't run a movie blog anymore and instead write 5000 word eBooks on a few different niches which is much more challenging but I usually concentrate on the topics which I have experience in or have a passion for. If I don't have a passion for it, likely I'll do everything possible to stay away from my desk.

As an article writer, the amount of articles I can write a day depends on many factors, which can include:

-My state of mind that day
-How many words are needed per article
-The style I am being asked to write in
-How much time I will need to invest in researching if I am not knowledgeable about a particular topic
    -The amount of editing required

The more experienced you are with writing, the easier it gets for writing quality content more quickly. Some writers may also be able to produce content fast, but get slowed down by the editing process, and especially if they are perfectionists. Again, even how fast you edit will improve over time.

However, it does get disheartening when people value quantity over quality, so if it takes you that much longer to really make your content stand out, then let it be.

All in all, as much as people seemed to dread it, writing quality content quickly really does get easier with practice.
