Success How Do You Define It

26 replies
Success is different to everyone but to me it is being happy with myself and having my family and friends also, setting myself up financial so I can do what I want when I want. It is all about freedom. Life is good!!!!

How do you define success and what are you doing about it?

If You Want It You Can Do It

Good Luck Everyone

      In my opinion, success is being in a position where you have the power to do what you want, when you want. The details of that are of course, specific to each individual.

    All I want is financial freedom and of course time with family and I need both of those. What's the point of having all the money in the world but having no family and/or friends? However it doesn't work vice versa, I'd rather have more family time and a little bit of $$ leftover to pay bills.

      For me, succes consists of 2 things combined:

      1) Experiencing as much pleasure as possible!
      2) Experiencing as little pain as possible!

      To me, success is all about identifying what makes you happy. Many people don't know themselves well enough to really know what makes them happy.

      A common answer is financial freedom or money. But money is just a tool. And depending on how it is used can add or subtract from happiness.

    I define success the way Tony Robbins once did: doing what you want, when you want, where you want, with whomever you want

    I couldn't agree more. Success to me is being able to do what you want when you want. Money buys you freedom in this country. Everything I do, I do for my family.

        I was chatting with a close friend of mine over dinner
        this Sunday. He's been an over-achiever on so many
        levels - academic, business, others - and our topic
        shifted over to 'success'.

        We both agreed on one thing -

        Success is the freedom to pursue one's desires or
        dreams, without having to compromise on other
        important issues.

        Let's say you suddenly decide you want to visit the
        ruins at Machu Picchu in South America. Can YOU
        up and leave tomorrow morning? Or will it take a
        few days or weeks to arrange to make it possible?
        Or much longer? Or can you not make it (for any
        number of reasons) at all?

        The choices you are limited to are at the heart of
        your "success".

        And no, it isn't about visiting Machu Picchu - but
        about the things YOU consider important, that matter.

    I don't define success by money either - money is nothing in itself, it's what it can help you to achieve that's more important. For me, that would be time to help others and volunteer, enough money to buy a house, and money to travel.

    But on a much more basic level, success, for me, means doing something I'm afraid of. Nothing beats the feeling of being so scared but doing it anyway and doing it well. And knowing you did it all yourself!

    Success is certainly freedom to me. This does not mean just living in the United States, but living in a way that allows me to do whatever I want whenever I want, of course within the law. My business is set up so that I can take it on the road with me and I can do what is necessary from anywhere. That is freedom to me and I Love IT!

    For me success is the accomplishment of an aim - be it financial or emotional. If I manage to be financially secure through IM, I would have reached my aim and therefore will consider myself successful.

    Same goes for an emotional aim. I would love to stay in a happy and long relationship. If I manage this, again I will consider myself successful in this particular area. I think the first thing is to define one's goals and then work at reaching them.

      I read this quote when I was 18 and it has stayed with me ever since. It's often attributed to Emerson, but not likely written by him.

      To laugh often and much;
      To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;

      To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;

      To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;

      To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;

      To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.

      This is to have succeeded.

      It's the line, "To know even one life had breathed easier because you have lived." that gets me every time.

      ....and yes, I have business and financial goals for success, too. But the not-really-Emerson quote is what came forward to share today.

    When you and the closest people around you are happy,
    and when the things you do no longer take a huge chunk of your time,
    so that you can spend more time for yourself and your love ones.
    And of course doing the things you always wanted to do, without worrying about other things.

    I like Tony Robbins saying which I can't directly quote but it is similar to Success doesn't make your problems go away, but with success at least you can arrive at your problems in style.

    I think success is similar to happiness in that it is usually always being chased after.

    Happiness is really more about experiences, and success is about making those experiences happen.

    The freedom to enjoy the experiences I want to enjoy on my terms is how I define success.

    I define it by not having to work for anyone but yourself. even if your only making just enough at first to pay your bills and have a little extra, if your doing it on your own terms I think that can be qualified as success.
