Getting younger visitors to click ads

I have a site that is doing quite well as far as getting unique visitors, but I am having a very difficult time getting them to click on Adsense ads. The site doesn't sell anything, but rather provides a free service that is of particular interest to 16-25 yr olds. Compared to other sites of mine, the CTR is painfully low despite having a very similar setup to sites that get a much better CTR. Have you ever noticed that younger people don't like to click on ads? What did you do to remedy the problem?

Can you post a link to your site so I can take a look at it? Or maybe give a little more info about the niche...

Answering your question blindly - My first thought it to test the placement of the ads... They are clicking on something, so move the ads closer to the things they are actually clicking on...

Ask yourself how relevant the ads are to your content. If it doesn't dovetail nicely, the readers may just not be interested in the topics of the ads. Sometimes ads just don't fit even if they have common words.

Second, is the content you provide something that causes the visitors to want more of a product, or be willing to explore other sites to find out more information?

I could have a dynamite site about improving your memory (to do better in school) but if the ads are selling memory upgrades for PCs, they might not get any clicks, even though they match a word in my site (memory). On the other hand, if the links were for a memory improvement course, would they click on it if you are already giving them the information they need (or can they expect to get the information from you for freee)?

You cant MAKE people click on ads, the ads have to be relevant and in a good spot and you can hope for the best. If you are with adsense then using any suggestive language or tricks will get you banned from their program.

That demographic spends alot of time online and as a result sees thousands of ads daily. So eventually their eyes become oblivious to ads and they only see/focus on the content in which they wanted to see.

This is a good point. In addition a person who's publishing Adsense in own site, retreats to click on Adsense ads in other sites

Yep. This. The younger generation has grown up online and most have seen hundreds of thousands of adsense ads already.

I think to market to this demographic you really need to think outside the box and get innovative with your marketing efforts. Figuring out how to do that is another story.
