Newbie - "NO GO Amazon Products to Promote"

I am probably a bit late with this as i have already started my site a few days ago. However I think it might be useful in the future!

Are there any niches in Amazon that are downright WRONG to go for?

The ones that have been said in some courses I have watched are the likes of LCD Tv, digital cameras and laptops. Which are electronics..

Some say that you should not promote electronics at all, does anyone have any opinions on the matter?

The product I'm promoting is electronic but does not have the competition of the ones mentioned above

Thanks
#newbie

Hi - Low cost items are okay to get your percentage up, but not much else. I think a mix of expensive and cheap is not a bad strategy until your volumes are up.... regards Allen

I just started building an Amazon Review Site on a product in the Electronics category. After 3 weeks Im on page 1 for several related keywords with 500-2000 searches each. Everyone recommends not using LCD TVs and Computers because of the sheer amount of competition. You can find such products with low competition, but its much more difficult. If you do manage to find one, it can really pay off though. All about doing your Homework. Hope this helps

  • I agree that everybody and their mom has a review site about electronics such as those, so the competition is extremely high. That being said, if you could find a high-priced electronic item that no one else is promoting, then it may very well work, although I can't think of anything of that type at the moment.

If you could market super high-priced electronics to tech geeks, that might be a workable niche without a lot of competition.

Personally, I usually have a couple of more expensive items, but the rest are lower-priced. And I don't deal with electronics at all. It's just not worth it to me.

Thanks to everyone for their input. Do you have any other examples of no go electronic products that you know of Bradley or anyone in particular. The electronic products im currently promoting have decent search value at about 1000-3000 and the competition is mainly from review sites which often have 0 PR and no backlinks for that particular keyword.

The only thing I'd recommend staying away from are household products. I have some #1 listings for vacuums and the most popular high end mixer. The sales compared to stuff like cameras just aren't there.

I've tried it with PPC and SEO and results are about the same. I guess people don't think of buying that stuff on Amazon.

You might try shoes. Popular shoes cost about $100 and through endless.com (Amazon company) you can get a 15% commission.

Oooh - thanks for the tip! I was just researching some vacuum keywords, but I think I'll stay away for now.

Household products are great from my experience. Some of my best niches are in that category.

      Cheers

I love household products and have a vacuums site that does very well. It probably depends on how well you presell your products, but people do buy ALOT of household stuff on Amazon.

Shoes are quite good. Winter boots are seasonal, but they often get alot of searches for particular brands and are over the $100 mark.

I stay away from stuff like computers, cameras etc as there are alot of authority sites competing in those niches (and I don't like writing techie type reviews).

Bread-makers and Keurig coffee machines are hot! (and competitive, but have tons of 'termite' keywords un-tapped)

Yeah I did notice bread makers seem to be slightly less competitive, however I've already created my site and put content on it!

    Thanks

Which is why one usually researches before site building. Lol. Good luck! You CAN be successful. NO negative thoughts!

I love threads like this advising people not to promote products that I'm selling and am doing well from. Maybe it's because I'm promoting amazon UK products and the competition isn't as high but electronics do well for me.

Sure things like vacuums seem to be more seasonal, peaking just before Christmas and in the spring when people are cleaning the most. But the sales mount up and especially when accessories are bought too.

Breadmakers sell, so do ice cream makers, microwaves and other appliances and I get those sales passively from a general foodie site. I have a notebook computer site that makes a nice profit, not as many computers as I'd like but the accessories fly.

When I build an Amazon niche site I look at what is selling and how much good feedback there is. I think about what I have bought and would buy from the Internet, also what my friends and family buy online. Yes I research competition but it doesn't scare me off if I think something is viable.

So less negativity folks please, one person's experience can be totally different from another's and you won't know without trying.

The way I'm looking at it is that making mistakes is one way in which ill learn

Thanks Patricia I think ill give this niche my best shot and just see what happens. Hopefully I won't be disappointed too much if it falls through. If that is the case, I think ill just have to pick myself up and go for something less competitive but I think this niche should be ok!

    Here's hoping!
