Just hit 10,000 views on one article

I am not posting this to brag. Yes, it feels good to have one article hit 5 digits but the truth is that it only has a 10% CTR. I have since learned how to get better CTRs. In fact, I have one article under a pseuodnym which only has 1,800 views but over 1,500 clicks. Moral of the story: The volume of readers only matters when they result in going through to your site/product.

Great lesson you learned there in making a more enticing/attractive resource box for your future articles in order to increase the CTR and your potential profit generation.

Any chance you can go back and change the resource box in your first article in order to capatilize on the new traffic it generates?

    Respectfully,
    Tim

      Hey tim,

I am hesitant to do so because I have done so in the past and the article seemed to get lost somewhere in "Google Land" but it does seem worth a shot. Thanks for the input.

You could also just write a second article using a pen name with a similar title and the same keywords using a different resource box. This way the first article stays where it is and your second article can be your test article - Just a thought

I've noticed that the CTR seems to depend on the niche a lot, too! I've got articles whose CTR's range from 50% down to about 10%. They're all written in essentially the same way.

  • Yup. I wrote an article last year titled "Britney Spears Nude..." To date it has over 20,000 views. It is actually an anti Britney Spears nude article so, it only has 208 clickthroughs. It does have a 5 star rating, though.

Yep. You are exactly right. I have a few articles that have had 3-6,000 views each. But they didn't result in a very good CTR. Why? Probably because they were written about someone "in the news" and people only read the articles out of curiosity and weren't looking to solve any problems or purchase anything.

In that instance then perhaps writing the article as a part 1 with part 2 or the conclusion on your actual website might be better suited to entice a reader to click through to your website.

    Hi,
Now would probably be a goodtime to do some articles on taxes with tax season approaching and the fact taxes are going to increase to pay for the bailout.
    Thanks,

Sounds like a good idea, now take action.

I think it is important to leave the reader wanting more and to offer what they are looking for in your resource box. I try to only leak small amounts of information in the article. I use a strong intro and conclusion and then use the resource box to let them know that if they want a lot more information on the subject they should click through.

You cannot argue with that strategy ... sounds like a winner. I also try to pull them in, lead them to the resource box, and then wanting to click thru.
