How many FACEBOOK friends do YOU have? And How did you get them?

Hello All.....

When it comes to Facebook, I guess I'm late to the party. I just signed up to Facebook recently and really like it. It seems like such a fun and effective way to keep in contact with others.

I have two questions:

1. How many Facebook friends do you currently have?

2. What are the better techniques and strategies for adding new Facebook friends?

I know that you can hire a compay to add friends to your Facebook account. But I'm not looking at that. I want to have REAL friends. Quality friends.

So far, I have just added my Facebook link to my profile and placed a little blurb in my signature file to "be my Facebook friend."

But there's got to be better ways of doing this.

Any ideas?

    Not many.

Remember, though, it's the "quality" of those friendships that count, rather than the volume. There are several people I know who have tens of thousands of friends, yet, they are lucky if they are able to provide any substantial value/market effectively to even a small handful of them. So, quality over quantity any day.

Hey, you may want to look at your Facebook link. When I click on the icon, it takes me to a "page not found" error.

I had this same problem until I assigned a username to my account (instead of the numeric code they provide you).

Would you mind if I sent you a friend request? I remember reading some decent posts by you last year about revenue sharing opportunities.

500? Sounds good. On long have you had your Facebook account?

What "groups" are you referring to?

I have a little over 1,000 FB friends and I've been on FB for about 3 years.

A lot of friends I've picked up by interacting with them on the walls of mutual friends. We may comment on the same post, etc., and then I'll reach out and "friend" them. Others have approached me this way as well.

Another tip is to look at users with whom you have mutual friends. You can then send them a friend request.

The key is to send a personalized request NOT just the default.

          Have a great day!

Hiya, I have 4600 friends on Facebook. Yes, I know that is probably "way" too many. However, I tend to target people who have the same interests as me. Most people of course, you are never going to speak too face to face.

I have been of Facebook about a year, I now add friends rarely, the ones I do, I send each one a note, telling them a little bit about myself.

I have some great marketing friends, lots from this forum - on there, plus I have many contacts from Facebook, that not only buy my affiliate products, but also do JV's with me.

It's also good for business, if you have a popular fan page - this gives you a great chance to increase the subscribers to your list..

    Keith

When you get a lot of friends, people tend to want to request "your friendship" more, so you don't have to keep adding friends personally.

I have just under 1000 friends. About 200 of those are people I know in "real life" - family, colleagues, etc. About another 50 are people I have interacted with on shared-interest forums.

The remainder are friends that I have specifically added to play games. This is very easy to do as there are hundreds of sites dedicated to adding people for particular games. However, it's difficult to monetize these people unless you have an offer that is specifically gaming-related.

Tip: when dealing with large groups of friends, use the Facebook friends lists option. I have about 20 lists made up of "Family", "Real friends", "colleagues", "ex-colleagues", "art friends", "mafia wars", "farmville", etc. You can also use the customize privacy option when you post a status update so you're not spamming your work colleagues with Farmville requests, or informing your gaming friends that your child just vomited all over you...

I have my personal profile which is only about 300 friends - these are real people whom I actually know.

Then I have an alias profile for one of my niches which is now just under the maximum 5,000 mark. In that niche I also have a couple of fan pages of about 20,000 total fans. If you want to do it properly and have responsive fans then it takes a little time but well worth the effort. That's over 20,000 people in that niche I now have the potential to reach and it keeps growing day by day.

My personal profile is about 600, but they are very targeted on my niche. I don't spend much time with facebook profile to be frank. It's better to socially market through fanpage instead of your profile which is limited to below 5000 folks. I might start a fanpage with 50,000's fans to market my product/service which better....I don't mean have 5000 targeted friends is useless, I just wish to add some ideas about social marketing with facebook...
    Thanks, Amoor

Thanks for your interest. I must say "fanpage" is very useful and powerful for facebook marketers today. I have loads of order with my fan adding service these days. Basically, IM uses fanpage to build fans for their business. They build as many fans as possible (let say 1,000,000 fans in your page) in order to advertise their business-product/service with their fans. When having bulk fans on your fanpage, you can update your content/ads in daily basic on your page so that all of your fans will see your ads on their facebook home. You can even send message to your fans whenever you want to. It's the same as you have a big email list in hand if you know the right way to promote to them. Not mentioned too much here about this, should you like to hear more, head over a facebook fanpage, create one by yourself or search on google...
There are loads of source for you there....

        Thanks

I must admit that I have several Facebook accounts and I use them for marketing purposes. I probably have round 5,000 total friends.

If you ask me how I did it, I use a very simple strategy. Put a picture of a hot girl and join as many Fan page and Group as possible. Yes, that simple.

Well, i don't think its possible to add 100's of friends in a short period of time without spamming the network, which is not my cup of tea. i have only a handful of friends most of them are from either college or work and some of them are my relatives and family friends. i don't have a separate account for the sake of getting hits and building lists and all that stuff. i think their are better alternative available for those and i don't really want to include a social network in my arsenal for the same

I will probably get burned for posing some of the following questions but after reviewing some of the answers in this thread I have to ask:

    1) This is a business forum and most of the posts I have read here refer to "personal" facebook exposure and the numbers of friends added to your account, but I have yet to see any actual dollar figures of what you have earned from all of these 'friend' building efforts? Anyone??

    2) Here is a link to a recent blog post on the Wall Street Journal that helped to convince me to not bother with facebook for my online business efforts:

Selling Via Facebook Benefits Few, Study Finds - In Charge - WSJ

While some businesses 'may' benefit from facebook exposure, my particular business model would most likely see little if any benefit from what appears to be a lot of tedious work with little or any ROI.

I do not make this post in an effort to get burned but simply to ask someone who has actually achieved quantifiable results ($$$) from their facebook efforts?

I understand what you are saying, however, this statement was also made in the original post -

"I know that you can hire a compay to add friends to your Facebook account. But I'm not looking at that. I want to have REAL friends. Quality friends."

which indicates to me someone who is willing to pay to get FB friends is seeking to have some sort of ROI for that expenditure.

I am simply asking, is there any quantifiable $$$ benefit anyone can post that either the time spent or money spent in adding FB friends is worth it for your business?

I'm not going to burn you, buddy. The reason I started a Facebook account was to network with like-minded individuals. And when I say "like-minded", I don't mean that we all like basket waeving.

I want to network with individuals that have a desire to make a full-time living online.

These are my people, as the saying goes.

IMers are a different breed, especially those that have been successfully making money for a while.

In my real life, I don't know many other IMers. And my friends and family question my sanity at times (until they see me happy and driving around in my BMW). I get the impression that they think I make my money doing something illegal. They can't grasp the concept that you can ACTUALLY make money by sitting in front of your computer and doing certain "things."

The Warrior Forum is a great place. But I want to know my fellow Warriors in a more direct/personal level.

That being said, business and making money is TOP PRIORITY for me.

We have over 100,000 facebook friends all built over a period of 6 months spread out over 30 accounts.

ALL quality friends. And when we need something done (i.e. voting, liking etc...) it gets done because we built quality relationships.

    How did we do this?

    Quite simple.

Join about 100 or so facebook game groups (i.e. farmville, cityville, mafia wars etc) and post that you are looking to ADD NEIGHBORS and also tell them that you gift back daily.

You then get a gift bot (like GiftAuto) that processes all of your facebook gifts. Your new friends are happy and they recommend you to their friends as you are a proven daily gift giver.

The art of IM is giving your friends/customers something for free that is of value to them. Word gets out and when you have scratched their back, they will scratch yours...

The Facebook account I started today is NOT for personal friends and family. I made it specifically for Warriors.

I'm hoping that it can be a place to share ideas, strategies, and success stories, as opposed to just a place to find buyers. I mean, I do sell products. But my main point with this Facebook account is to network with IMers (especially Warriors).

Hey Joe, I think you might have chosen the wrong social network to pursue the given purposes.

Facebook was initially created by this geeky guy Mark so that people could connect with their friends and relatives. This platform is ideal for sharing pictures and sending messages to each other. People are initially looking for communications with who they know in real life and they are also looking for some procrastination maybe

I must say that Facebook is pretty "personal" thing. I love when my former classmates send me messages or contact me in chat. But when former clients do that - I get irritated

In case you need to network (build business relationships) - there's a much better platform - LinkedIn. This is where professionals are communicating, sharing their ideas and headhunting.

The other platform that is really cool to connect with people that interest you is Twitter. And I think it's the one you're looking for.
It's ideal for sharing ideas, thoughts and strategies and that is actually what most people use it for.

So my suggestion would be to forget about Facebook and shift to Twitter instead

    I have two questions:

    1. How many Facebook friends do you currently have?

    2. What are the better techniques and strategies for adding new Facebook friends?

I know that you can hire a compay to add friends to your Facebook account. But I'm not looking at that. I want to have REAL friends. Quality friends.

So far, I have just added my Facebook link to my profile and placed a little blurb in my signature file to "be my Facebook friend."

But there's got to be better ways of doing this.

    Any ideas?

On my main Facebook account, I have hundreds of friends but all are real people I know in the real world. And I don't do any marketing with that account and on Facebook at all. But if I had to, I'd open a new account and add other new people and do my marketing there.

It's the daisy chain effect; I added about a thousand friends in a week or two.

Of those friends, about 250 are personal friends, the others are all "networking" friends in the same profession. I divide them into groups and don't follow the network friends.

And that's how you add them fast - find that one person with several thousands of friends and then hit up each of them. They see the "friend in common" thing and you're in. The more friends you have, the more people want to be your friend.

And let's face it, when you cross that 200 friend mark - most likely the other person is not really a personal friend, and that person will not take time to see who you are; they'll just add you.

I'm sure I could take the friends up to the max of 5K...just don't see a need for it yet.

Don't play games, don't run ANY applications, never, ever log in from another site using your FB login, never like a page from an outside site (ok to do within FB), run the https version and make sure you have a separate, dedicated FB email addy and strong FB password and you will never have any problems on FB.

My personal account has 300+ friends.

I made another account for games with more than 100 friends only. I guess I don't spend much in facebook unless it's on my business' fan page.

I've got about 1500 friends on a separate Facebook account that I set up to see how effective it was for marketing. I started out going through groups/interests that were related to what I wanted to promote. As alluded to in earlier posts, I've no longer had to do that as the friend requests come in on their own.

    The maximum.

It's easy to get Facebook friends. Simply join game lists, ie Mafia Wars and Farmville.

Facebook likes and such are different.

Use Twiends and similar types of sites. Increasr is one.

I gained a ton because of MafiaWars now I am going through removing them. Like the game but having that many friends makes it hard to follow the 150 or so real friends and family kind of defeating my purpose for facebook

    Ok....

    New question:

What would be the most effective way of adding Warriors to your Facebook friends list?

I don't want to reak any rules or anything. I have learned the most about IM just from chatting with Warriors. Not to mention the increase in confidence. When you see others doing it, it makes it more believable that you can do it to.

How about this idea: starting a WSO and giving the product away free to those that send you friend requests. That would work, right?

Yes, offering it for free as an WSO would be a good way to get Warrior friends, I think.

i have just under 1000 friends i think. probably about 600 of them are people I actually know.

i used to play farmville and some of the other zynga games and people friend requested me every day. adding people through the zynga games, especially farmville is a quick way to get friends.

ps i should mention you obviously don't have to actually PLAY the games and I would suggest NOT playing them. addictive and a total waste of time.

i had both physical and emotional symptoms of withdrawal when i finally DID stop playing farmville. i had heard that about WoW and other MMORPG but i never thought it would happen to me... and with a silly farming game. who'du'thunk'it?

    Hi Cosmo....

I don't think that anyone was implying that you HAD to be on Facebook to be successful. For many people (possibly yourself), there is no need or desire to be part of it. And that's perfectly fine.

We all have friends "offline." I do. Everyone else does as well. If you have so much negativity toward Facebook, no one is saying that you should be a part of it.

That being said, I generate my income online. All of it. Most of my customers I have NEVER seen, nor will I ever see them. Even the friendships I have made on the Warrior Forum. I have not met a SINGLE one of them in "real" life. But they are still my friends. They still add value to my life.

Trust me, I have a bittersweet reelationship with Facebook already. My goal was not to try and "get the most friends." My goals was to quickly network with people who were similar to me. Isn't that what we all want in the end? To share our time with people we like, people who like us, people who liked communicating with us.

I have just shy of 400 friends and I got most of my friends by adding people I know and sending messages to members of facebook groups. I add the people that are suggested on the right when we have 10 or more friends in common or it looks like based on the friends we have in common we might run into each other sometime in the near future. I most admit I have accepted requests from about 50 people that are "internet marketers" that do the type of marketing we do on the forum but 20 of the might also be "internet marketers" that wanted me to join their downlines in the network marketing opportunities. I like seeing how they market their businesses because it helps me come up with ideas to incorporate into mine.

i would not pay a company to add friends on facebook because it is way too easy to add people you don't know or will probably never meet for free.

I actually don't pay attention to numbers of friends...you are maxed at 5,000 anyhow. I build facebook pages that people can like (unlimited numbers) You can have a fan page for yourself...much better than a personal profile because once you get to 5,000 you won't be able to do anything else. Just a thought.

I'm sure that this strategy (playing FB games) is a great way to add Friends. However, I don't think I want to go this route.

I want most of my frinds to be IMers, Warriors, etc. People that have a passion (or at least an interest) in making money thru online efforts/

      People like me.

I still don't "get" facebook, so if you have hundreds of "friends" who has time for that?! How in the world do you keep up? I can't even keep up with my emails and my daily routine going to work, etc. Plus I don't know if I would really want to get involved wih high school again since I lost touch and don't know them anymore. What am I missing?

      Hi...

I don't think that abyone could keep up with ALL of the messages and friends. I think it's more of getting all of the certain type of people together in one place. And I'm talking strictly in a marketing sense.

Let's say that you had a website on fishing. You start a Facebook account specifically for this. And then you start adding friends who love fishing.

It gives you the opportunity to develop relationships with those people. At least in the sense thatthey know you (ie. Facebook friends).

So when you do have a new fishing product or want to further promote your fishing website, you can do so.

For me, I'm just looking for a way to interact with others who want to make a living online. Share ideas. Share success stories and failures. Share strategies. Etc. Bounce ideas off of.

I think Facebook can be used in a variety of ways. Not just the traditional way that most people seem to use it.

      Best wishes,

      JoeMack
