Question about backlinks

Hi all,

I've got 5 micro niche sites and have been doing my own backlinking using firefox and their add-ons to add comments to relevant blogs. Well I found one with a PR5 and got a backlink. Today I was checking my backlinks with YSE and I noticed I had about 15 backlinks from the same site on different pages ranging from PR0-2. So it appears they are adding my link to their other pages. I am new at this so I would like to know, is this a good thing? Or can I get penalized by google for this?

Thanks,
Deb

In my opinion - you will never get penalized for any backlink building. If a competitor can buy 1000 BS backlinks for you - and the search engines penalized you for it - all your competitors would do it to put you out of business. Backlink away!

You wont get penalized for this, and if someone is linking to you then that could imply that the content of the post/blog is good (non spammy) which is great.

    best of luck

You will definitely not get penalised for that. Was it a blog you commented on? I have had this happen with blogs that are using the "Recent comments" widget. Very useful while it lasts, but your comment will rotate off eventually.

    Hi Deb,

    It's a good thing.

You won't get penalized at all.

Websites don't "have page rank". Only pages have page-rank. Many "backlinks from high PR sites" turn out to be backlinks from low-PR pages on sites of which the home page happens to have higher PR. That doesn't matter, and they're (often) still worth having if they're on relevant sites. Relevance is much more important than page-rank.

This thread should be in the SEO forum, really ...

The key is to make it look natural and avoid patterns. That's what Google is looking for. The principal is simple.
