A friend of mine is able to produce 3d gif graphics like this one:

http://comercomputerservices.com/att...lver_Sign1.gif

I have never seen them anywhere else online and we were talking about the prospect of offering her talent as a service here on the forum. Just curious if anyone would be interested in purchasing a design like the one she made for my Computer Repair business.

Still not sure how she even did it, but I think its pretty cool. Hopefully I am not violating any rules or anything, just wondering if anyone thinks there is a market for these kinds of graphics. Mine ended up being about 770KB and took her 4 hours to produce.

I'm not sure if there is a market for these or not. The best way to figure it out is to try

    Just post that WSO.

Do that with an e-cover and you will be in business!!! Also, slow down the speed a bit to make it much less annoying, and easier to see the front side of the ecover etc.

E-Covers eh? An interesting idea. I would have to find out if that could be done.

I know she was saying the balance between number of frames, speed, and overall size of the graphic is tough to manage. I suggested to keep it under 1MB for page loads but the example above was still about 45 frames.

Interesting idea though with e-covers. Thanks for the input.

Might just be me, but I thought animated gifs went out of style about ten years ago? Sorry, but when I see stuff like that on a website today, it just makes me think no one has paid attention to that site in years.

Haha! Well one thing is for sure, I don't see any business websites with them anywhere. Maybe your right. Gaudy, flashy, and crappy looking gifs are a bit different then a 3d ad like this though, IMO.

      I dunno, maybe your right.

No offence, but kinda agreed with this. Otherwise need to pay attention to the quality of design. I don't think an animated spinning like that will make any impact for business, other than make it looks cheap.

A static with HIGH QUALITY design will do just good.

I kinda agree with you Steve..

BUT I think part of the bad impression on animated gif comes from the fact that they are all so OLD and CRAPPY looking!! LOL and that's just because they were all designed 10 years ago...

However, occasionally you will see a high-quality and well-designed animated gif like this one that was created from an actual movie!!

      Pretty cool huh??

One benefit of an animated gif is that it can be seen on almost any browser, as opposed to flash.

You could make some really cool animated GIF banners too. You can put them on sites like WarriorForum that only allow basic images and do not allow embedding flash. You can do a lot with a GIF that would be cool.

Anyway, just thought I would share... maybe someday animated gifs will make a come back!! What do you think? LOL

I'll agree that this animation is certainly high quality - but I'd rather see you invest that time in a great headline that makes people say "I want to do business with THIS guy" and not just "Hey, that's a cool spinning logo"

More than a company name or logo, you really need to hit your visitors with a strong USP that makes them want to learn more about doing business with you.

    Cheers,

    Steve

You should add a cute cat in a yellow starburst to make it more flashy. I'm sorry I just think things like that junk up a site.

No offense taken folks, that is why I came here and posted the question. Leave it to Warriors to just straight up give their opinion, lol.

I do somewhat agree though, not that I don't like the one she made for me. Actually, I quite like it having designed thousands of static graphics myself with Photoshop and Corel over the years. I guess I just appreciate it artistically. Taking my logo and incorporating it into a spinning sign is much more impressive then taking a series of frames from a movie, but thats just my opinion.

No worries, it's all in good fun!! I sure would like to know how she did it though...

Of course, design is always a matter of opinion. What matters most is sticking to what the majority of people like... and sadly, now, it's definitely NOT animated GIFs LOL
