Adwords driving me mad!

Hi Guys

Ive recently changed servers and a domain that I had run adwords on was offline for a while, but Ive switched it over recently to my new server.

Ive tried to run an adwords campaign on this once offline domain. The landing page matches all Xsitepro optomisation, good meta data, image names, keyword density...etc.

Ive asked Google to tell me which keywords fit my site and when I run an adwords campaign for those keywords, I get a quality score of 1/10. The adverts/keywords and landing page are all relevant to 3 keywords, but google is asking for $5 a click and telling me that the keywords THAT IT SAID WERE RELEVANT on my page aren't relevant when it comes to quality score...and my landing page should be optimised further.

I don't get this and would appreciate any guidance here.

You need a lesson in delivering benefit focused pitches.

I don't need an entire course, just some pointers on this specific issue.

Check out Google's site for keywords that they find relevant to your site.

    Search-based keyword tool

I can't comment any further about your campaign 'cause I don't know the keywords, the Adwords copy or the landing page URL which.... you should keep to yourself to avoid copycat competition.

    Cheers!

        Jock -

In all seriousness, people used to ask me
about sending traffic to a blog. I thought
it was a terrible idea. But that was seeing
a blog "as a blog" - not as a SEO friendly
        CMS.

Keep in mind that all of my PPC traffic is
sent to a SQUEEZE PAGE. I avoided Google
Slap for 2.5 years with my particular approach
to Adwords - then it happened to me too.

A good quality score probably depends more
on good SEO than any other factor - a blog
does it for you by its nature.

So I decided to try out Wordpress, building
my sites to essentially function just as they
always had before - ie, it still looks essentially
        the same.

Over the last nine months I've transfered
almost all of my sites over to WP and it's
greatly benefited my business. I honestly
can't think of a more "must learn" tool than
WP - it will change everything for you.

All the best to you - X

PS - I can pretty well assure you that
once you get over the slight learning curve
with WP that you'll find it so much easier
to use than XsitePro - if you can use XSP
you have the skills to do things that amaze
will women and children alike with WP.

Thanks for the great reply. So its a QS issue mainly?. Im all on for increasing quality score....directly leads to higher profits. And I can easily use wordpress static pages as landing pages? I suppose that makes a lot of sense. The CMS is better, I agree...

One thing I love about XSP is the ability to produce hundreds of basically similar landing pages with pretty much the same content, but using tokens to insert keywords.

Im going to look at it. If you ahve any good free resources that I can look at for producing landing pages, Id be interested to have a look.

Interesting.. I've done the same thing (Plus a few Joomla installs thrown in). I only have a few static html sites left; even my sales pages are moving to wordpress or joomla.

And Wordpress themes are becoming incredibly versatile, better looking.. there are many options that are starting to move away from the look and feel of the traditional wordpress blog.

The only thing that forces you to go the Static HTML route is if you are using a tracking or ecommerce script that doesn't work well with some of the functionality of wordpress. So I always have a version of my theme in HTML made.

    Google's recommendations rarely equate
    to good quality scores.

My guess is that you need to re-group - literally.

If they give you 200 keyword suggestions
that DOES NOT mean you should dump all
200 into an ad group, or point them all at the
    same landing page.

Create finely targeted ad groups that are as
on target with what the landing page is about
    as possible.

Example, "adwords" - not adwords, ppc, overture, ysm, msn adcenter, etc

Next, I don't know why anyone would ever
build another website using anything other
    than Wordpress again.

    I really don't.

Using the exact same content on a WP
    versus an old-school build-it-yourself
    site produces good-great scores versus
    poor-OK.

    Hope this helps.

Does that include when creating sales pages too? Should you only use WP to create them?

      Thanks,

I only use 3 keywords...which are the three that google told me were highly relevant to my site...thats why Im a bit stumped here. I love Xsitepro and cant be bothered messing about with wordpress.

I can usually knock out a quality score >7 in about 20 minutes, but this is a review page for clickbank products, the first of this type Ive done. The site is little barren, but Ive added contact/privacy pages and a bit of speil on teh home page to pad it out a bit.

I know there have been a few issues over at clickbank with payment processing over the last few days, and was wondering if this was the issue? Has google taken clickbank down a few pegs?

You really think it makes that big a deal? Xsitepro is so easy to use for a non techie like me....and integrating wordpress into it is a doddle. Its the best of both worlds.

Can you give me some examples where a straight forward wordpress blog wins hands down over the combo?

Just set up a new adwords adgroup....EVERYTHING is geared to ONE keyword, title, description, links, image text, H1 tags...KW density perfect. This ONE keyword is the only one in the adgroup....which has text that is heavy with teh keyword....still 1/10 QS.

Google HATES this site....wtf! I've never come across this issue before.

I dont know. This site was offline for about 6 months...maybe thats the reason. I just copied it to another domain name in 5 minutes....so no real harm done.

One other question for you X...

I use adwords editor and cant find the ability to target ads to a certain position (1-3 etc, in search) in it or to schedule ads more evenly. A little of your wisdom would save me a ton of time
